It’s time for progressives to reclaim the Constitution(mega barf alert)

The idea of a Constitution of Opportunity is both refreshing and relevant. For too long, progressives have allowed conservatives to monopolize claims of fealty to our unifying national document. In fact, those who would battle rising economic inequalities to create a robust middle class should insist that it’s they who are most loyal to the Constitution’s core purpose. Broadly shared well-being is essential to the framers’ promise that “We the people” will be the stewards of our government.

I think this assclown means that the progs/libs/commies/dimokkkrats should continue usurping the constitution. How utterly sickening. Lucky he lives in the US.

What’s even more disgusting and sickening are some of the comments. But, it is the (com)post?

Progressivism is a mental disorder. Actually, now that I think about, it's an expression of the fundamentally fallen human nature that accepts no authority but its own. In a Christian context, progressives reject the authority of God and read into scripture what they want it say. They are doing the same thing, rejecting the fundamental soundness and authority of the Constitution.

To “reclaim” something don’t you have to “claim” it in the first place? When have the Fabian Socialists and Communists of the progressive movement ever stood behind the US Constitution, except to use it as a tool to subjugate the people or hide behind when they’ve committed a crime?

In other words they want to change the constitution. Freedom of speech, freedom of religion, freedom of the press, freedom to own guns, freedom to assemble would all be changed or eliminated. They would make the government responsible for most basic needs...housing, education, food. All at the expense of personal freedoms.

"For too long, progressives have allowed conservatives to monopolize claims of fealty to our unifying national document."

Conservatives did not force leftists to say things like, "The Constitution is an obsolete document written by dead white men who owned slaves, didn't allow women to vote, and intended the Constitution as a protection of their own property rights and privileges." I heard stuff like that for years, it was staple rhetoric from the left. So conservatives weren't "monopolizing" the Constitution, liberals were minimalizing it.

You know, there are basically two kinds of people in the world.

Those who just want to be left alone, and those who refuse to leave them alone.

I don’t care what sodomites do to eachother. Just don’t force me to celebrate it or cater to it in any way.

I don’t even care anymore if people want to select themselves out of the gene pool. Just don’t force me to pay for it.

Live your life the way you want, and let me live mine.

But, NOOOOOOOOOOO. They just can’t leave us alone. We have to do everything their way. We have to speak like they do, we have to even think like they do. If we have any differences, WE are the ones driven into the closet!

THIS . MUST . STOP !!

Really .. reclaim the Constitution .. since when have the progressives EVER CLAIMED IT IN THE FIRST PLACE.

All they ever do is write laws to try to cancel it out.

This will not fly .. and is a stupid plan.

Progressives have already pretty much destroyed the Constitution. The 10th Amendment is a virtual dead letter, and the application of the 1st Amendment to the states has utterly subverted it, giving the federal government vast powers to meddle in local matters.

“Those who just want to be left alone”, thus my “LUTFA” motto.

If the constitution is a living breathing document, why do progressives try to suffocate it?

E.J. Dionne is quite possibly the stupidest writer at the WaPo, and that is saying something!

"those who would battle rising economic inequalities to create a robust middle class should insist that it’s they who are most loyal to the Constitution’s core purpose"

I don't know if Dionne's major problem is that he is stupid or dishonest. The Constitution says NOTHING about economic equality or the middle class, not even by inference, so how can that be its "core purpose"?

And - regarding "income inequality" - has anyone else noticed that the rise in income inequality has directly paralleled the rise of liberalism in our country? Perhaps it is the decline of biblical values of frugality and moderation and modesty that has contributed to society's emphasis on "the rich and famous" and the glorification of excess.
