The understanding of the history of humanity helps one to understand the present. Understanding that Islam is disconnected religiously from what preceded it and that Protestantism is a western phenomena has a certain value. Having traces of Christianity snuffed out that preserve traditions that are traceable back more than 1600 years, and that were once dominant in various regions is a great loss.
