Lamar Alexander has abandoned GOP platform, primary challenger says

One of the challengers to Sen. Lamar Alexander in the Tennessee GOP primary race said Monday the incumbent lawmaker does not deserve another term because he has made a habit of abandoning the party’s national platform.

State Rep. Joe Carr said during an appearance on MSNBC’s “The Daily Rundown” that Mr. Alexander has supported “amnesty” by voting in favor of the bipartisan immigration bill that passed the chamber last year.

“There are a number of issues that are a fireable offense … where Lamar departs radically from the Republican National Committee platform,” Mr. Carr said. “Tennesseans not only want a conservative, but they want a reliable Republican.”

Mr. Carr is among the crowded field of challengers running to unseat Mr. Alexander in the state’s Aug. 7 GOP primary.

Asked whether he accepts being cast as a tea partier, Mr. Carr said he shares the movement’s opposition to lower taxes, “amnesty” and Obamacare.

“Those are certainly tea party principles and I embrace those,” he said. “But this campaign, as an underdog, is much more than a tea party campaign. We are reaching out to Republicans who believe that the Republican National Committee platform is a document by which we can take America back to its greatness.”

Finally, someone pointing out that the republican candidates don't even match the republican platform.

That ain't about perfection or purity. That's about party integrity.

Sounds to me like Lamar has fully embraced the GOP platform.

Not the official platform. Believe it or not, the official platform doesn't approve of abortion or banning guns.
