President Obama evidently has decided not to put a human face on the crisis unfolding at the southern U.S. bordernot even his own.
The White House said over and over again Monday that Obama will not travel to the border with Mexico despite flying to Texas this week to raise money for Democratic candidates there.
It's certainly in part a political decision, one meant to avoid taking ownership of a difficult issue on which the White House would prefer to share blame. But it's also one that will inflame Obama's critics on both the right and left who say the administration has been too passive in response to the thousands of young border-crossers swamping U.S. detention facilities.
Obama's press secretary, Josh Earnest, said the administration is "not worried about [the] optics" that the Texas visit will present, despite the fact that the president is expected Wednesday to attend a fundraiser at the home of a wealthy Dallas lawyer and then go to another in Austin at the home of filmmaker Robert Rodriguez, according to The Dallas Morning News. Tickets for each event will range from $10,000 per person to $32,400 a couple.
Earnest said the president is "very aware of the situation that exists on the southwest border" and noted several administration officials had traveled there to review the situation.
On NBC's Meet the Press Sunday, Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson said the president "can't be every place he would like to be, or even should be."

Mexico and Texas are just a community with a border running through it.
Because his Moslem Brotherhood and al Qaeda
are only SECRETLY moving weapons and weaponized
diseases in “mules”, there.
When they blow up and make radioactive
entire US cities, only THEN will the Tyrant
finally recognize each, openly,
as a new entity towards his 57 States.
Imagine the reaction in the press if, shortly after Katrina, Bush had gone to political fundraisers in Louisiana but refused to stop by New Orleans to see the devastation.
The differences are that Bush did not cause Katrina and Obama’s Katrina is just beginning.
Because he is not about to be caught near a fence with anything on his face that could be construed as a smile.
If I were a conservative running against a RINO or a Democrat in November, I’d be waiting with bated breath and a camera for that opportunity. I’d overlay it with Drudge’s new picture of the hundreds of illegals forming a human chain over the fence. Then I’d just say the RINO or the Democrat (whoever) was wholeheartedly in favor of what Obama is doing.
There are no golf courses or basketball courts down there? Michelle forgot to press his “Mom jeans”? He doesn’t want to get scabies or lice?
Because there is no political upside.
The Grand Kenyan has never been about governing, he’s about campaigning.
Which is exactly what he’ll do in Texas.
He didn’t come here to go to the border. He came here to poke us in the eye by ignoring the border while raising more money from the idiot left.
Not sure HOW International Business Times got in the header. Link does go to National Journal, though. Sorry.
Because, there is not a golf course there worthy of the One.
Afraid of TB, lice, other???
Afraid of certain folks hugging him?
Obama being a border no-show demonstrates again why he's never personally associated with the multitude of scandals, crisis, and frauds he's perpetrated on the American populace. He knows just how to play his little detachment games......and the low-information section of the country buys it.
Doesn’t want to be associated (or possibly infected by) one of his Obamacamps.
He already knows what is happening, he created it. What does HE need to see?
If the prez went to the border the MSM would be forced to cover the story. I am amazed that there is next to nothing about the flood of illegals in the three major dailies here in my area.
Obama does not need to go to the border. He knows that everything is going exactly as planned on the border.
