Murrieta protesters oversimplify a complex immigration crisis
Los Angeles Times ^ | July 8, 2014 | by David Horsey

The unwillingness of the House of Representatives to discuss immigration reform — let alone actually pass a bill — has left the debate in the hands of a crowd of screaming hotheads in Murrieta, Calif., who show no inclination to let facts get in the way of their paranoia about brown-skinned hordes subverting the America they revere.

The protesters in Murrieta say there’s a simple solution: Send them back! They neither understand the law nor the complexity of the situation. Unsurprisingly, they are being fed their facts by Rush Limbaugh and other right-wing ranters on talk radio and Fox News who portray the whole thing as part of the liberal Democrats’ heinous plan to change the very nature of American society.

This is not a simple situation and there is no simple solution, so nothing will be gained from oversimplification by either bleeding hearts on the left or the stone-hearted shouters on the right.

Immigrants in the 19th and early 20th centuries that came through Ellis Island were processed. At the time, America was not cash strapped and bleeding out the eyes and a$$ with social programs. Immigrants of that time learned English, the American way of life and BECAME Americans. Immigrants today, especially from Central America and Mexico have no intention of becoming American. All they want is money and to extend their third world country into the United States. They demand that we conform to there way of life or face accusations of racism, bigotry, and Nazism. They continue the way of life they escaped and pass it on their children. Again they have NO DESIRE OR INTENTION of becoming American.

Why don’t we drop the ILLEGALS at the LA Times office? The libs can show us the definition of love and compassion as they take care of these poor people.

I love how everything is supposed to be “too complicated” for us rubes to understand. They’ve got it right. There is no logical reason to take illegals to a rural area way North of the border unless you want them to stay there and provide cheap labor to the ruling elite.

Over simplify the immigration process? What a load of Bull Excremant.

The easiest and most cost effective way to control Immigration is to make it more difficult to enter this country and to do that have only limited Official Points of entry.

Since the Mexioco/U.S. Border is the Busiest it should be protected by a double row concrete barrier capped with razor wire. That fence needs to cover the entire southern border as practical.Depending on geographic obstructions.

That would not only be a physical barrier it would also be a psychological barrier.discouraging many illegals from making the attempt to come here.

Once that is done the nation can be very selective as too who it allows to immigrate.People that come here should have something to offer that can benefit our Society. Not just come here and sponge off of our Taxpayers.

Because they have let the most extreme elements of the gun-rights community dictate gun policy for the entire country and now they are afraid to cross them. For conservatives, this is not the time for a discussion about guns because, no matter how much blood is spilled, even in preventable circumstances, it is a discussion they never plan to have.

There are six reader comments so far at this Los Angeles Times website. These are comments from readers of the liberal L.A. Times, in leftist Los Angeles.

ALL SIX OF THEM sound just exactly like they were written by FReepers. For an even bigger eye-opener, read the nearly 2,000 comments revealing how Angelenos really feel about illegal immigration following the pap story about Hundreds March in Downtown LA to Support Immigrant Rights at CBS Los Angeles.

We are ALL allowing ourselves to be distracted. The REAL story is not what Obama is doing or what's going on in Murietta or at City Hall in downtown LA. The REAL story of what is going down in America, remains unreported in the official news pages, but is nonetheless being told LOUD AND CLEAR in the comments section of mainstream news organs such as LA Times and CBS Los Angeles.

The REAL story is that the vast majority of Americans think EXACTLY LIKE WE FREEPERS DO -- except they are angrier than we are -- about Obama's administration, illegal immigration, and liberalism. That is the REAL story that we MUST UNDERSTAND if we want to win our country back.

It is very much a SIMPLE situation with a SIMPLE solution

ENFORCE EXISTING LAWS, the very idea that we need a New Law because we refuse to enforce the Old Law is patently absurd.

Somebody, IN THE UNITED STATES, is going to have to pay for these kids. Every dollar that the liberals take from me in taxes to spend on these kids is a dollar I don’t have to spend on my kids and grandkids. Is that fair?

We have more than enough laws and resources in this country to enforce border security....we lack the will to do so.

According to Obama, the immigration law is so broken that, "nobody knows what it is."

I heard him say think in the Rose Garden with my very own ears.

Usually, when a liberal says “it’s more complicated than that”, it means that they don’t have a common sense, rational argument in support of their position, and are relying mostly on the emotional “feel” of the issue instead.

That is the REAL story that we MUST UNDERSTAND if we want to win our country back.

I was once told that there are two things that every man thinks he can do better than any other man.

1. Grill a steak
2. Coach his favorite football team.

I love FReepers who declare whatever to be a distraction and the REL STORY is OVER THERE.

Just a little light heartedness here. Your main point is good and well taken.

the simplest explanation is generally the correct explanation.

Those that want to call it “complex” are just dissembling for political advantage.

Cal Thomas wrote an good article here

Wonderful quote - to refresh our memories:

"In the first place we should insist that the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equity with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming an American and nothing but an American. There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any flag of a nation to which we are hostile. We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people." Theodore Roosevelt in a letter to the American Defense Society in 1919. "Every immigrant who comes here should be required within five years to learn English or to leave the country," he said in a statement to the Kansas City Star in 1918. "English should be the only language taught or used in the public schools." “We can have no "50-50" allegiance in this country. Either a man is an American and nothing else, or he is not an American at all.”

Theodore Roosevelt 1919

looks like we've been fighting this battle a L-O-N-G time.

Amazing how so few voices are being heard over the roar of the angry crowd (who are tired of the endless stream of border-crossers)

Bottom line: our government is encouraging illegal behavior.

Sadly, another fallout of Obama/PelosiCare: it's opened the floodgates for those seeking free healthcare!
