The Blaze brings our attention to recent commentary by CNN columnist Sally Kohn on the topic of illegal immigration. She claims that describing immigrants that way, as illegal, is like using the n-word to describe black people. Kohn writes:
During the civil rights era, Alabama Gov. George Wallace was asked by a supporter why he was fixated on the politics of race. Wallace replied, You know, I tried to talk about good roads and good schools and all these things that have been part of my career, and nobody listened. And then I began talking about n*ggers, and they stomped the floor.
Today, opponents of immigration reform attack undocumented immigrants as illegal immigrants. Even worse, like anti-immigration extremists, some prominent elected officials use the term illegals. Maine Gov. Paul LePage, a Republican, said, I urge all Mainers to tell your city councilors and selectmen to stop handing out your money to illegals.
Not the same thing? Of course it is.
No, it isnt. Kohns equivalence is beyond despicable.
The n-word serves no descriptive purpose. It does not speak to a factual truth about its object. The n-word is plainly and only derogatory.
The word illegal is an adjective with objective meaning that describes a factual reality. We call illegal immigrants illegal because they are here illegally. Its pretty simple.

How about ‘invaders’?
That’s closest to the dictionary translation of their status, so ...
She’s a clever boots - trying to shut down the language again like so many other leftists. Will we fall for it?
I’m surprised Blacks are tolerating the Left’s marginalization of slavery.
A rose by any other name....
I have yet to hear any of the libs address the thousands who have been waiting months or years to enter the U.S. legally.
If Jose comes across legally he is a legal alien.
If Jose comes across illegally he is an illegal alien.
Same person, different status based on his actions, not how he was born.
RE: I have yet to hear any of the libs address the thousands who have been waiting months or years to enter the U.S. legally.
YEARS is the reality.
We won’t call them “illegal” because it hurts their feelings.
If you Teabaggers were more sensitive to others, you’d understand that!
/sarc(?)
la raza connections?
I always knew that if we had a Ministry of Truth some day that it would be run by evil people, but I didn’t think that they would have such severe mental problems.
For anyone to say something like that about the true and accurate word “Illegal” must have an IQ in the negative numbers.
Invading Aliens
Illegal alien sums it up without any doubt to legal status or criminal nature..
PING
I dislike using the word illegal to describe them as well, for it has been corrupted through overuse.
Instead they should accurately be called what they are: “Mexicans, Guatemalans, etc.” specifically “Mexican citizens”. Doing this clears up many issues, for example:
“9th Circuit Court Panel Orders Arizona To Issue Drivers Licenses To Mexican Citizens”
“Demonstrators opposed to Mexican citizens being sent to their town stood their ground again at the Murrieta Border Patrol station on Monday, where U.S. Border Patrol had been scheduled to transfer a third round of buses, with approximately 140 Mexican citizens aboard in total, transferred from overcrowded Texas detention facilities.”
It certainly does. That's why they do it.
‘Illegal alien’ is a legal term of art. It has no philosophical or emotional content. It describes a person’s status in regard to the law and nothing more.
I say we call her a racist for using “undocumented.”
