U.N. Urges U.S. To Treat Migrants As Refugees

People who enter the U.S. and nearby countries illegally from El Salvador, Guatemala and Honduras should not be forced to return home and should be treated as refugees, a U.N. agency says. The U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees says people from those countries are subject to persecution.

From Geneva, Lisa Schlein reports for our Newscast unit:

"The United States isn't the only country being flooded by migrants from Central America. U.N. refugee spokesman Adrian Edwards says the number of people fleeing to Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica and other countries in search of asylum has increased by more than 700 percent since 2008.

" 'They are fleeing an environment of transnational organized crime and other problems there, and we believe that amongst that there are people who will be in need of international protection,' Edwards says.

"The refugee agency is particularly concerned about the large number of unaccompanied children arriving in the U.S. Washington estimates more than 90,000 unaccompanied children will arrive by the end of September."

reports that of the 52,000 unaccompanied children who have been taken into custody by U.S. border agents since October, about 75 percent are from Honduras, Guatemala and El Salvador.

"Even in a region accustomed to immigrant surges, no one has seen anything like this before," from the Rio Grande area of Texas last month.

As last week, the Obama administration has struggled to discourage would-be migrants from attempting to cross into the U.S. illegally. Carrie talked to several people in Guatemala who said that conditions in their country — especially the economic prospects for its children — were enough to make them move north.

The call from the U.N. echoes statements made in the spring, when the refugee agency released "," a report that cited interviews with migrant childre

Why no video from Guatemala? Shouldn't some heads up reporters show us the uncontrolled violence down there.

I think we should treat the UN as INVADERS.
Good thing is, Blue helmets make good targets.

Like the UN has even had a clue during entire time of its sorry existance.

Add up the IQ of the entire contingent there and one wouldn’t get past a decimal point.

Yes

Possibly the first time I agree with the UN.

This is an international refugee situation caused by CORRUPT FAILED STATES not taking care of their own citizens. These countries should be sanctioned and charged for the cost of housing and caring for the refugees until their home countries get their act together even if that takes decades.

Put them in refugee camps and treat them well (on their home country’s dime) until this issue is resolved.

Oh, the Useless Nitwits put their two cents in. Here’s an idea. If the Useless Nitwits are sooooo concerned, why don’t they draw up a list of member nations that are willing to take these “refugees”? We’ll send them right over.

The UN should be driven from New York into the sea at bayonet point, and the building razed to the ground. I think NOTHING good has ever come from that misbegotten and misguided organization.

Why no video from Guatemala?

Or Honduras, or El Salvador. I'd like to see videos of the staging areas. La Bestia might be crude, but its roof is loaded up like the second deck of a commuter train on the Long Island Rail Road. It's a planned factory of invaders, not a spontaneous movement.

And another thing... the reputed coyote fee for transport was $10K per head. That's bullcrap. These people don't have $10k per head to spare. Hell, even in the US, not many retiring people can put 10K per head together after working and paying taxes all their lives. If these people have that money, then the streets of Central America are paved with gold.

Or use the UN building as an encampment for the ‘refugees!’ Make them give up their cushy office space!

They are fleeing an environment of transnational organized crime and other problems there

Guess who created that environment? Themselves. They are fleeing themselves and as the old saying goes, where ever you go there you are. They are just going to recreate that environment here.

So the UN is concerned? Fine. Why don't those countries take in the...uh...refugees?

Funny how all these do-gooders think the illegals should be provided for. Yet not one of them will do their part to help out.

"U.N. Urges U.S. To Treat Migrants As Refugees...

.... Ya ... this is exactly what the administration was waiting for and has planned since day one of this truly manufactured crisis. .... A few weeks ago I predicted that the verbage of this situation would be magically transformed from the term "Illegal Immigrant or Migrant Children" to the term "Young Refugees" in what would become a successful effort to demonize any verbage against this massive influx of Future Democrat voters and force Republicans into a defensive corner.

.... Just think about it ... To even think of sending these poor Child refugees back to their horrid and violent meat grinder countries of origins will be a certain death sentence for these poor innocent defenseless children. (At least that is the narrative that will be verbally vomited out of the mouths of every Democrat and Immigration reform activist and supporter.)

.... In short .... The Republicans and the Tea Party will be portrayed as wanting to literally ... Kill the Children .... and Send them to their DEATH ..... Heck ..... Do the Republicans and Tea Party even have even a tiny loving compassionate bone in their collective evil bodies?

.....Good luck on trying to defend against that one folks.

If those people are so poor, ho did they manage to come up with $5000-$10,000 to pay the coyotes off?

Obviously, they didn’t. Either the rates are a lot lower than advertised, or as you’ve suggested, the compensation is coming from somewhere else.

They are not refugees they are gangsters-to-be. Without a family structure it will be difficult for them to be anything other than gang members. We should send them back and enforce the borders.

Send the ‘refugees’ to Geneva.

I understand we can expect about 70 million of them once the news gets out.

No problem for the Swiss. They LOVE working hard to give their paycheck to another.

By the Constitution they would be IVADERS.
Blue Helmets and white vehicles do make great targets.
I just hope they bring there own body bags. As they carry 9mm-5.56X45-7.62X51-50 BMG resupply for me will be great.

It had been $4000 per head, and they did raise it. If they were caught by Mexican police, the cops would take their money, but the American border patrol did not abuse them and did not steal from them.

Maybe there's been a quantity discount? Like, when you travel with a tour group, some of the prices are lower?

Maybe all the blue helmets need to go down there and help police Guatemala because it is obviously having such a hard time doing it.

The trouble with making America an unlimited bleeding heart territory is that pretty soon it will become bleeding uninhabitable. Also how much of this crime and junk will these kids bring? Maybe even Chicago punks will be afraid of them.
