Super-Amnesty Will Turn Every City into Detroit

Posted By Daniel Greenfield On July 9, 2014 @ 12:58 am In Daily Mailer,FrontPage | 3 Comments

After another bloody weekend in Chicago, Mayor Rahm Emanuel branded the shootings unacceptable and the city’s top cop demanded more gun control laws. Chicago’s murder rate has actually dropped since concealed carry became legal. Emanuel’s lawsuits over his illegal gun control laws have left the already struggling city deep in the hole and forced to cover the NRA’s million dollars in legal bills.

Concealed carry paid off over the bloody weekend when a vet carrying a gun returned fire stopping a massacre before it happened. The original shooter ended up in the hospital, but nobody ended up in the morgue, which kept the death toll for the weekend down to fourteen.

Fourteen isn’t pretty, but it’s better than twenty or thirty.

Chicago’s murder rate in 1992 was double what it is today. The death rate was at 33.7 out of 100,000 which meant that you had a pretty good chance of being shot in Chicago. Today it’s down to 15 out of 100,000, which is small comfort to those ending up in the morgue, but it gives everyone else much better odds of surviving to see what ingenious ways the next corrupt mayoral administration will use to rip off the city.

Back in 1992, the cops also blamed guns for the murder rate. But it wasn’t the guns that were killing people. It was the gangs.

Now the murder rate is down, but the number of shootings is up. To Chicago’s police boss, that’s a problem, as if it makes a difference to the deceased whether he’s shot, stabbed or dropped in the water wearing cement overshoes. But fighting guns is easier than fighting crime.

The gun obsession is one of the few things that cops and leftists have in common. It’s the last politically acceptable form of prohibitionism in a society that enthusiastically legalizes drugs, even if possessing crack cocaine is statistically much more likely to lead you to kill a man, than possessing a gun will.

Every shooting spree bypasses the obvious problem with calls for more gun laws and something for the youth to do over the weekend that doesn’t involve shooting up the local housing project. This weekend, Rahm Emanuel took on the problem of funding more teen centers while Chicago’s top cop blustered about more gun laws. And then having successfully talked around the issue, they all went home.

The left loves root causes more than it loves red shirts and black bandanas, a fashion choice that it shares with some of the gangs responsible for most of the shootings.

America’s gun violence problem is urban. It’s localized in Democratic enclaves. And it overlaps neatly with its corrupt political machines. It has nothing to do with the NRA and a great deal to do with the party of social engineering, the welfare state and gun bans.

And illegal immigration.

Homicide rates overlap with unemployment rates, especially when accounting for the demographic populations of young minority men who are statistically more likely to kill or be killed.

92% of black male teens in Chicago don’t have a job. In Detroit, 50% of black men are unemployed. It’s not that there aren’t any jobs, but the entry level jobs have been mostly going to immigrants.

The Center for Immigration Studies found that under Obama two-thirds of jobs went to immigrants, both legal and illegal. Throw in a massive illegal alien amnesty and the rush of illegal aliens into the country will turn the employment figures of every city into Detroit and Chicago.

The black male unemployment rate in New York was at 33%. And the murder rate in New York is significantly lower than in Detroit or Chicago. But how long will that last if the unemployment rate in New York rises above 50%? Before long the marginal gangs will swell to monstrous sizes controlling entire neighborhoods. Anyone who can will flee and the city will once again become what it was.

The same process will take place in most major American cities.

The United States of America does not have a shortage of workers. It has a shortage of jobs. The irresponsible immigration policy has created a surplus of workers. Illegal alien amnesty will make that surplus much worse. Legalize twelve million illegal aliens and another twelve million will come. Those who can’t find jobs, will find gangs. Those who lose jobs to them will also find gangs.

The gangs will fight each other for control of entire neighborhoods and the crime wave will set America back decades.

After the 1986 amnesty, the number of murders, which had begun to fall in the early eighties, rose again. They did not return to a pre-amnesty level until 1997. Rapes have only recently returned to a pre-amnesty level. Now the progress we’ve made is about to be undone all over again.

In 1986, murder rates suddenly rose mysteriously in major cities. The New York Times described the crime rates as being the highest since the 1970s.

In Chicago, murders increased by 20%. In New York they increased by 20%. The cities rushed to crack down on guns while insisting that they were mystified by the drastic increase.

The guns weren’t the problem. The illegal alien amnesty which had created a magnet was. Illegal aliens with fake documents headed in hoping to take advantage of amnesty. Later newly legalized immigrants invited their family members to join them. Even before the amnesty took effect, crime rates spiked.

Amnesty advocates claim that immigrants aren’t taking jobs from Americans because they are more likely to be employed at the lower and higher ends of the marketplace. And that’s half true. What it really means is that they displace trained technical workers at the high end of the marketplace. That leads to a further erosion of the native middle class, but it doesn’t directly lead to gang violence.

At the lower end of the marketplace, they not only displace workers, but they displace the workers that might have been. Teenagers who would have started working regular jobs instead roam around aimlessly. The lost entry level jobs are substituted with crime. Neighborhoods fall apart and gang violence increases as gang members compete for turf in the new drug marketplace.

And the rest is crime statistics and children taken to morgues in cities that can barely keep the lights on.

If we want to repeat the same cycle again, Super-Amnesty, an amnesty several times bigger than the one in 1986, will make it happen. Entire cities will fall into gang violence. Their economies will collapse and that will have a ripple effect on their suburbs and on entire states.

America will be a more dangerous and poorer place. And the politicians will talk some more about banning guns and about building more teen centers for the youth to hang out in between shootings.

That is comrade obamatollah's plan - to "fundamentally change" America into a communist society.

I really do not feel sorry for anyone who lives in Chicago...

You people voted him (Rahm Emanuel, and his predecessors) in, or have been so dominated by the nonsense that is finally too much for the liberal/socialists to cover-up...

Just not feeling too much pity for the situation in that city...(kinda catchy, hmmmmm)

It’s gotten to the point that the term “Chicago on the Potomac” (”D.C.”) really emulates (illustrates) the situation, not just in Chicago proper, but across the country now...

And people across the fruited plain don’t just roll over on their backs and take that kind of crap for very long...

Funny thing. people are beginning to resist this type of elected caste of characters in the strangest, and most unlikely of places, more than others where you’d expect it to occur...And I am extremely glad it is finally taking root...

By their silence the GOPe obviously doesn't mind whats going on, and is hoping they get to enjoy the benefits of all these new arrivals (which they will not) and that Obama takes all of the political heat.

Worse than worthless cowards.

I’ve been cyber-screaming this since the crisis started. The balance is very iffy in most if not all cities among whites, blacks, and four or so distinct hispanic groups. Add all of these spanish-speaking central americans to the mix, and it could explode. Also consider the schools having to cope with this new foreign population and with “children” already exposed to gang culture. How does it not cause chaos?

Education needs to begin in corporate America. CEO spout that for one immigrant (legal or illegal) help create six jobs for Americans. Imagine that?!!! Problem is CEO are presented studies that expouse net benefits of having immigrants (legal and illegal) and sweeps the price of it under the table. It is like a French general expousing the benefits of WW1 because in net France did win over the Germans but the lost generation of young men and its effect on French society is never discussed. Same mind set amongst US CEO, bottom line they make tons of money, the social ill effects are dumped onto the tazpayer and middle class/poor class America. Callous bastards. Take out the power/money centers (corporate America) promoting illegal immigration and you will end this illegal immigration reform nonsense.

If you have ever travelled south of the border, you will find in all cities that property has fences protecting items from theft. Every lot, every small house has either walls or fences with concertina wire or broken glass used to stop thieves. The days of trusting small town USA will be gone. Third world shithole with cardboard and tin houses, will be upon us!

Could we trade the inner city youth for the illegals in an even swap? Mexican gangs could put them to work at what they do best!

Worked in corrections years ago. Our state recidivist rate was about 60%, 96% when you counted all states. Hence I have little faith in rehabilitation as behavior is ingrained by the time people become felons. Many released felons migrated to major cities where they could receive welfare payments, get lost in the masses, and most often continue their criminal lives at another level. Major cities created this problem with their liberal social problems and desire for cheap, uneducated labor (creating a pool of prospects for unions). And now they wonder how they could be in such poor financial condition and dealing with high crime? Most responsible citizens who could fled from the inner cities, eroding the tax bases and, coupled with increased union wage demands, pushing these cities to the financial brink. My heart goes out to those trapped in an environment they can’t control or flee, but more money and immigrants are not the answer.

It's not going to be just Chicago in the future that you'll need to 'feel sorry for' stevie... more immigrants mean less jobs for blacks. Which means more fake disability claims, more out of control crime and more violence. In your city - maybe in mine. NOT just Chicago or Detroit. It'll be any city with a substantial number of black residents, illegals and few jobs to compete for..

Thank you, Mr Greenfield. I had a conversation just yesterday with a long time friend & I told him the problem isn’t gun control——it is GANG CONTROL.

This is something that doesn’t just apply to Chicago. It is nationwide. Los Angeles was lost years ago. Detroit also. Now, even Billings, Montana has a gang problem & a lack of justice that clears up the problem.

Fine. I have no need to go into big cities any more these days, and the cities are filled mostly with liberals who asked for all this stuff. Let them wallow in their own sewage.

2 points:

A. America doesn’t have a shortage of workers......

B. America has a shortage of jobs......

A-—There is a vast difference between WORKERS & BODIES. A WORKER HAS to have some skills. They have to speak, write & understand ENGLISH language well. They have to be presentable to the public at whatever level the job requires. They have to be dependable. They have to be trainable in the nuances of the job. They have to pass drug tests & often be bondable. They have to be able to prove they are even legal to be hired by ANY employer in the USA. Showing such ID which is required to properly fill out an I-9 form for a job. That has been the law since the 20th Century here in the USA.

Just being able to prove that you exist isn’t enough to prove that you are a WORKER!!!!

That fact seems to chronically escape the unemployed blacks in this country- regardless of age. Quitting school whenever they want & having a mile long rap sheet isn’t a mark of distinction in the community of employers——it is a sentence of PROVEN unemployable status.

B. There is a shortage of jobs which have NO SKILLS of ANY KIND. Even the guy who digs a grave has to do it to the satisfaction of the employer. A JOB is just that-—a JOB. It means that you have to have the skills to perform the job and have the rest of the attributes to make the employer happy about your work product.

America has more opportunities for education than any other country in the world. Refusing to use those opportunities is NOT the fault of the public nor of the employer. You who are unemployable are the cause of such choices. I & others have paid property taxes for years to support the community schools. We are not going to support an army of truant officers. Nor are we going to support YOU for an untold number of years forward. You are running out of chances.

Living a lifetime of being supported by those who are productive is teaching only that now, employers are supposed to pick up the baton & keep handing out paychecks to those who don’t deserve them. I don’t know a single employer who will sign up for this status & the risk to their company’s future.

A breaking point is coming & filling the USA with more illegals isn’t the way to deflect that breaking point. In fact, it will hasten the breaking point, IMO.

Authors & historians will have plenty of information for whatever books are still written 60 years from now.

The current administration is pushing for a race war. They haven’t learned to be careful what you ask for.

Looking like Detroit might be the best of these immigrant areas. I expect large parts of the southwest to revert to squalid villages indistinguishable from the barrios of their home country. Imagine Spanish speaking versions of Indian reservations where the government provides everything and the residents willingly live in grinding poverty with no jobs and just wait for their government dole.

Heck, even Steubenville, OH has a gang problem. I took a wrong turn one time and ended up in the run down section and I buzzed the windows up, turned on the A/C and booked out of there.

You may be raising an issue I wasn't aware of. When I read of recidivism rates in the 50s and 60s, bad enough, are those only crimes committed in the state the perp was imprisoned in?
