ISIS is leaving a path of destroyed churches, shrines and mosques in its wake as it storms across Syria and Iraq, and has even set its sights on Mecca -- Islam's holiest site.
The nihilistic jihadis, led by self-proclaimed descendant of Prophet Muhammad Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, have already bulldozed or blown up some of the most sacred places in Iraq, and seem bent on killing and destroying anyone or anything that does not measure up to their twisted vision of Islam. Experts say the group, which originally stood for Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, but now simply calls itself "Islamic State," has appointed itself the leading proponent of the Muslim faith.
“They see themselves as the last defenders of Islamic civilization and want to eradicate anything that they see as the enemy of Islam, and any Muslim they perceive as compromising with the West,” Yvonne Haddad, a professor at Georgetown University who specializes in the history of Islam and Christian-Muslim relations, told FoxNews.com.

Mostly comprised of Sunnis, ISIS surprised few when it vowed to destroy sites revered by the rival Shia sect. The two main blocs of Islam have been at odds for nearly 1,400 years because of a dispute over who was Prophet Muhammad's successor. The destruction of at least 10 ancient Shia shrines in Iraq has enraged the Shia government in Baghdad, as well as the Iranian regime, also Shia.

There's a strong iconoclastic streak in some circles of Islam. Remember how the Taliban blew up those ancient statues of Buddha in Afghanistan, back in 2001? There's also an ongoing destruction of mosques and other historic sites associated with Islam, in Saudi Arabia by Wahhabi extremists.
Add to the mix that we have have had treaties and agreements to protect the kingdom for decades. JFK sent in planes to stop Yemen back in the 60s. Obama can’t sleep through those. He would have to go out of his way to do nothing if Saudi is attacked. But nothing he does surprises me anymore.
the world needs a modern day Genghis Khan , with respect for GK’s approach towards Islam . Of all who have ever lived GK came the closest to forever whipping islam off the face of planet earth ( as I understand history )

trying to civilize muslims hasn’t worked well. Maybe getting them to fight eachother will work better.
Might work. I have read that many Muslims believe that Mecca can never be destroyed and if it ever were destroyed, Islam would cease to exist because the destruction would mean Islam was not the true religion.
Let those who want to defend Mecca fight those who want to destroy it, but we need to stay out of that fight.

Hmmm, maybe they’re not so bad after all.
Kinda like the Chinese Cultural Revolution where Mao tried to destroy China’s past—even going so far as to try and demolish the Great Wall. Saudi Arabia better watch out—the royals are not so believed that their heads might roll. This Iconoclastic behavior might be good for Islam—they need a reformation. From all of this blood—may come a realization that this destruction and murder isn’t what Allah or Monhammed wanted.

Islam has been on the long slide for a while now. OBL tried to get things rolling, and did for a bit, but only in selected areas.
If ISIS takes Mecca, they will start a massive war. Not to mention we REALLY don’t want a new Caliphate. Unless we have a Crusade ready to go.
