Ann Coulter calls on Chris McDaniel to give up
Politico ^ | 7/10/14 | Jonathan Topaz

Posted on 07/10/2014 6:38:43 AM PDT by Night Hides Not

Ann Coulter is urging tea party challenger Chris McDaniel to concede in the Mississippi Senate Republican primary.

In an op-ed in the Jackson Clarion-Ledger, the conservative commentator said McDaniel supporters who are fighting to contest the June 24 runoff election results against Sen. Thad Cochran are hurting the GOP — and McDaniel’s own political future.

The GOP-E is hurting the GOP. Just as Romney was about the worst possible candidate for 2012. Ann gets it wrong again.

I don’t listen to a single word she says.

I did, however, like her column on soccer.

Uhhhhhhh...isn't that what we want?

— and McDaniel’s own political future.

Meh. That it's his future. Let him decide whether or not it's worth risking.

The GOP in its presesnt form NEEDS to be hurt. Hurt bad. They are currently just Dem lite. Whereas the Dems are driving the national train off the cliff at 100 mph the Republicans are promising that if elected they will drive it off the cliff at only 70 mph.

I got a robocall form Karen Handel for whom I voted in the primary because I thought she had conservative principles. It was announcing her support for Kingston for the runoff race for Republican candidate for the Traitor Chambliss seat.

Just damn. No one in this country has any principles anymore - that includes Ann.

I disagree with her premise that even a GOPe majority is preferable to an acrimonious fight. But she does have a point in many will be turned off by the fight.
I do know that if I still lived in Mississippi and Cochran is the nominee, I would be voting for Childers. Or not voting at all since I have pretty much decided voting is a complete waste of time.

I know I’m going to make people angry here, but what exactly did Cochran do that was fraudulent? Paid for a few votes? Appeal to the black community to vote for him. McDaniel could have done the same thing.

IN comparison, to other examples of vote fraud, this one doesn’t pass the sniff test.

I’d say all in all, I agree with what she is saying. Time to move on. LEt’s get the senate.

So it's ok to "appeal to the black community" by paying them to vote for you? If that was ok, Cochran should have done it during the first vote.

Let's not forget the racist ads and robocalls made by the Cochran campaign, paid for by GOPe senators.

Cochran conspired with the very people who are destroying this country,to subvert an election. An election that he would have clearly lost without intervention. Why won’t election officials allow their paperwork to be examined?Could it be that they have committed felonies?

If Cochran emerges from this unscathed, this will become the default standard for the GOP-E to put down the Tea Party. Stopping this crap in its tracks is far more important than one Senate seat.

The major challenge is not so much "voter fraud" as paid votes. Yes, that happened, but it happens in every election. You're also right that McDaniel could have appealed to the black community to vote for him as well. However, where I see the McDaniel campaign has a legitimate case, is the circumstance where a voter cast a ballot in the Democrat primary AND the Republican runoff. That's not allowed under MS law.

McDaniel has found enough instances of this to make the difference. That IS assuming that the duplicate votes were all Cochran, but from my understanding, McDaniel hasn't been given access to all poll books in the state to determine exactly how large an issue this is. The fact that he's found enough votes in the counties he's been allowed to review so far, is sufficient to call the result into question IMHO.

Ann gets it right most of the time but when she misses, she misses. The more firm facts that come to the forefront, the more I see McDaniel is swatting at a pinata with a Nerf bat. Getting proof that the election was stolen is becoming less likely as each day comes. This brings us to a paradox as to vote for in the coming election; a brain dead drooling RINO or a Democrat that can make Reid look like a choir boy?

“Let’s get the senate.”

The ‘us’ in that sentence is the GOPe, who have systematically impugned, backstabbed, lied about, withheld funding, and otherwise screwed over anyone who is in the GOP but not part of their clique.

So, what you are saying to conservatives amounts to “get back on the danged plantation”.

You’re right - that does make a bunch of us angry. As it should.

Needless to say, I disagree with you (and Ms. Coulter).

In this editorial, Ann, who is a skilled and insightful writer, is making two errors and one oversight in my opinion.

First, she is signalling to McDaniels that, if he takes his lumps in this instance, the GOPe will pay him back with a later appointment or support in a later election. That assumes the GOPe will retain its iron grip on power, an error if one observes the weakness of the GOPe and its trajectory of decline due to a vanishing strategy and misunderstanding of what motivates voters. Ann also leaves out the influence of the Dem party, which, increasingly dominates the boundaries of what the GOPe can do. The GOPe is largely under the direction of the Dem party.

A second error that Ann makes regards election integrity. If the election is driven by illegality, it delegitimizes Cochran and Cochran will be less effectual in office than he would be otherwise. It could subordinate Cochran to others’ control and would be an issue thrown at R candidates in upcoming elections, weakening R influence going forward. It also severely damages public confidence in the integrity of elections, with broad and severe implications for the nation—not a minor political squabble.

The oversight regards the need for dissent and challenge WITHIN a party if that party is going to work hard, improve, and maintain awareness of the voting public. A party that is run by a core of elite power brokers and their few large donors will become out-of-touch with voters and serve only their own narrow self-interests. Such a party fades and is vulnerable to external challenge. A viable party must challenge itself to be vibrant and successful.

Just my 2 cents.

Well said.

I think Ann has made a business decision to appeal to GOPe, thinking it's a larger market for her books. She may be right, but her books, which are usually compilations of past columns, do not broadly appeal to the generic GOPe supporter.

Up until 2012, I usually bought one (or more) of Ann's books to give to my wife. Not anymore.
