A visibly angry Sen. John McCain grilled the head of America's border patrol on Wednesday over a policy that limits what members of Congress can do at detention facilities where the government is holding thousands of illegal immigrant children.

'I have never seen anything like your instructions, signed by your name. ... Are you telling me that [when] I visit a detention facility, that I can't bring a cell phone with me?' the Republican asked.

'Are you saying that? ... I am not allowed to take photographs?'

'I want it fixed immediately! Understand?' McCain boomed at Customs and Border Patrol Commissioner Gil Kerlikowske.

The policy, called an 'Interim Protocol for Visitation and Tours,' requires all visitors to turn over their phones and restricts contact with the detained children and staff members.

McCain ripped into Kerlikowske for applying the rules to him even though the Nogales, Arizona facility is in the state he represents.

'People from Arizona elected me, and I'm not supposed to even carry a cell phone with me?' he demanded. 'Mister, you have overstepped your responsibilities and your authority.'

'I want those instructions revoked, as far as members of Congress are concerned, and I want it done today.'...

I heard it and I was happy. Our Repub representative should all raise their voices and demand action.

What are they doing? Staring out the window and imagining themselves in their happy place?

This is war. And they should be acting like officers.

It is like we have to fight and win our senators back to our side.

To tell you the truth, I’ve been raging about how he pays more attention to the war in Iraq and not the invasion on our own border. Glad he finally got on the stick.

One thing about McCain, the media will put a mike under his chin, and we need him to voice our outrage.

We don’t want him to completely go to waste in our efforts.

Yes. John Lame is one of those odd Republicans who are always beating the drum for a ‘robust’ US US response to some foreign quarrel or another. He was one of the those noisily agitating for military action against Serbia throughout the long violent collapse of Yugoslavia. When Bill and Weasley had their Splendid Little War with Serbia over , of all places Kossovo, John Lame was positively beside himself with patriotic ardor and pressed for ground force involvement from almost day one. When the Russians stole a march on the US and showed up at the Pristina airfield before NATO got there he sounded like a Hearst newspaper after the Maine explosion demanding US airborne elements be sent post hast. Most recently he and that miserable Gramnesty made their famous visit to Syria and he came away finding a need for significant ‘US involvement’, naturally. John Lame’s POW experience seems to make him hanker after constant US military involvement in various dubious battles as some sort of psychological compensation. He is a strange fellow. Not as strange as BHO, but strange enough even by Washington's bent perspective.

AMEN! Our POW's were betrayed by McCain and Kerry. I remember crying while hearing those two traitors sentence our POW's to die without lifting a finger to investigate the many sightings, and bring them, home. I hope they both rot in Hell for what they did. Actually I think that's already a done deal. The blood of the POWs is on both their hands.
