Ukrainian Forces repelled an attack on the Donetsk Airport. Reports the spokesman of the National Security and Defence Council Andriy Lisenko during his briefing.

“Today, militants fired form mortars and small arms at the airport in Donetsk, which is controlled by the Ukrainian military. The attack was successfully repelled, there are no losses among our servicemen,” – said Lisenko.

“Attacks on airports in Donetsk and Luhanks are carried out periodically,” – summarised the NSDC spokesman.

They repelled the attack, but lost several of their heavy pieces. They are dug in around the tower area, and the fuel farm, both of which have large earth berms around them.

Vostok is defending the approaches to the airport, and they are heavily mined, so getting them any help will be difficult.

The attacks were renewed again today. Kiev did manage to part of an airdrop in to them this morning. They dropped two pallets from a high altitude. One fell on the airport, one did not. http://youtu.be/xy-3HsjQNGM

The BIG news out of Ukraine is the destruction of the “Lviv” National Guard battalion near Lugansk. reports vary but around 450+ UK casualties are being reported. They got caught moving across open fields with a large GRAD attack, followed by a large Anti-tank ambush. Hromadske TV is confirming this.

Also, the Col. in charge of retaking the ATO-area border posts, Col. Igor Momot, was killed, along with his entire entourage, in an ambush.

Reports of that another of Kolomoisky’s groups (”Donbas-2”??) is surrounded and cut off near Saur-Mogilia.

Another attack aircraft was shot down near perevalsk, adding to the the two SU-25’s claimed yesterday near Seversk.

The rebels have gotten a LOT more active in the last two days.

Also, there are Twitter reports, with several pics, of Russian units on the other side of the border marked “Peacekeeper”.

Fact check your sources [Again, twitter is NOT reliable and your use of World Socialist web Site [wsws.org] is NOT reliabe because of their HEAVY political agenda as well]: http://www.kyivpost.com/content/ukraine/30-ukrainian-soldiers-presumed-dead-in-overnight-rocket-attack-355693.html Up to 30 Ukrainian soldiers are presumed killed following an overnight rocket attack on July 11 by rebel forces in Luhansk Oblast, in the deadliest single attack on the army since it resumed its anti-terrorist operation 10 days prior. The precise death toll of the incident remains unclear, with conflicting figures cited by a range of media outlets. A statement on the website of Ukraine’s Interior Ministry cites 19 deaths and 93 wounded. “At 4.30 a.m. terrorists opened fire from a BM-21 ‘Grad’ multiple rocket launcher. As a result of the attack, 19 soldiers of the Ukrainian armed forces have been killed, and 93 wounded. According to latest reports, militants fired from a distance of over 15 kilometers. An air strike was carried out in response,” says the statement. Meanwhile, an adviser to Ukraine’s Interior Minister Zorian Shkiryak claims at least 30 died in the attack near the village of Zelenopillya, 90 kilometers south of the regional capital. “Information currently available suggests up to 30 dead, but it’s possible there were more, as these bloody degenerates once again used Grad rockets and the destruction there is substantial,” Shkiryak said at a briefing on July 11. Grad rockets are Russian-made, truck-mounted missiles fired in bunches and noted for their inaccuracy. Following news of the attacks, President Petro Poroshenko held an emergency meeting with army representatives to discuss growing reports of their use by rebel forces. “For every life of our soldiers the rebels will pay with tens and hundreds of their own. Not a single terrorist will escape responsibility, each will get his comeuppance,“ the president said at the meeting, according to a statement published on the website of the presidential administration. The precise number of Ukrainian army casualties caused by the rocket attack is still being clarified. According to anti-terrorist operation spokesman Vladislav Seleznyev, unreliable media reports have exaggerated the death toll. In a post on Facebook around 3 p.m., Seleznyev claimed 23 soldiers had been killed in 24 hours. “In the past 24 hours, while carrying out special duties in various regions of the antiterrorist operation, 23 soldiers of Ukraine’s armed forces and border guard service have been killed. 93 Ukrainian soldiers and border guards have been wounded,” Seleznyev wrote. The attack is the most deadly single incident for government forces since rebel forces shot down a Ukrainian military plane overnight from June 13 to 14, killing all 49 on board. More than 250 Ukrainian soldiers have been killed since the military conflict in the country's east began almost three months ago. Careful. I posted a thread about this victory for the rebels but it was pulled. Guess it wasn’t the news someone wanted to hear.
