It was nine months ago this week that the Federal Government experienced a partial shutdown. The budget impasse between House Republicans and the Obama administration over funding for Obamacare kept several thousand federal employees home for two weeks.
The bulk of those workers live in the D.C./Maryland/Virginia area and now, nine months later, we have tangible proof of what many of those federal employees were doing with the extra time on their hands.
According to CBS radio, the D.C. area is experiencing a mini-baby boom:
WNEWs Kimberly Suiters reports that Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington has seen an additional 100 babies born in the last three months compared to that time period in 2013.
Sibley Hospital in Northwest D.C. has seen three more babies than normal per day this month.
It was there that Suiters spoke with a couple who had an induction scheduled for Monday but were told about an hour before they were originally supposed to arrive that there was no room in the maternity ward.
Ali Heidarpour, a Labor Department employee, says he and his wife, Sarah, didnt even realize that the shutdown might cause an uptick in births. Nor did they put it together until this week that they conceived their baby girl, who was born Tuesday afternoon, while Ali was sequestered.
So after all the hand-wringing and predictions of Armageddon the nation had to endure as sob story after sob story occupied the cable news networks showing the plight of IRS and EPA bureaucrats who were forced into a two-week paid vacation, its pretty obvious now that these guys werent quite as stressed out as we were led to believe.
Great. Just what we need...Federal worker bees breeding...*SMIRK*
(I was a Federal worker at one point. Due to my love of America, I did not replicate myself, LOL!)
All other non shutdown times it is ‘Sorry honey not tonight. I have to go to my federal job tomorrow.’
I guess it’s not that surprising. if they don’t have to go to work, they can stay up late and/or sleep in and have some extra nookie.
Grin, yeah, in other words "Can't tonight, going to be screwing the American people all day tomorrow..."
I can laugh because years ago (gosh, has it been that long...) I was a federal GS worker for a few years. Like every other place I've worked before or since, you find some good, some not so good. Some people work hard at their jobs, some don't.
Don’t shut down the government no more. The last thing we need is Federal workers breeding future Federal workers. :-)
My daughter is a “Hugo Baby” from hurricane Hugo that ripped through the southeast in 1989.
Yes, ‘Hugo baby’ is a thing.
Two weeks without power... candles... bow chicka bow
>> Dont shut down the government no more.
Nah, shut it down frequently, for weeks at a time.
When they’re doing each other, they’re not doing US.
They went from screwing us to screwing each other?
“Sorry honey. I’m f-ing 300,000,000 people a day at work and just don’t have the energy.”
