In a major surprise, the American Federation of Teachers (AFT), the countrys second-largest teachers union, opened its biannual convention Friday by announcing a step back from its support for Common Core education standards.
The group, gathering in Los Angeles, announced that it will now provide monetary grants from its Innovation Fund for teachers who want to critique the standards or even write entirely new ones themselves. The AFTs executive council is also introducing a resolution, to be voted on at the convention, which would declare that the standards had noble intentions but have fallen short due to outside meddling and an inordinate focus on standardized tests.

As the father of a teacher, the vast majority of teachers were figuring out ways to fake it so the govts would leave them alone. The problem is the testing made that impossible and they had ALL their curriculum stolen from them by Common Core. Push-back is their ONLY recourse. Like 99% are hating this and they are 70% Democrats here.
I guess they are realizing that if education does too bad a job that parents may teach the kids themselves.
Bush Family, GOPe, Chamber of Communists won’t be happy over this
Unions are even seeing how bad Commie Core is
But I thought Common Core was settled science?
What are they going to say next, that the element carbon is not an evil capitalist plot?
How dare they?!
But wait...It was teachers who put this mess together.
If you read the article, it is clear that the teachers don’t want to be held accountable for the results of standardized tests. This is all about their paychecks—not education. Teachers know better than anyone that the public educational system is a fraud: lowered standards, no discipline, socialist indoctrination, and lack of parental involvement. They just want to get paid well for it. Leftist social policy ensures that educational results will only get worse. That’s why Chelsea Clinton went to Sidwell Friends School in Washington—and so do Obama’s kids.
What with blacks a bit miffed about illegal immigration, the young revolting against Obamacare, construction unions peeved about failure to hookup Keystone, and now the teachers unions dissatisfied with Common Core, one could almost conclude that Obama, in addition to attempting to destroy capitalism and the Republican Party, is also hellbent on destroying the Democrat Party.
When the Democrats realize that they are in his crosshairs too, it will be too late for them.
It is my understanding that it was *not* teachers who put this mess together. It was a top-down approach that took no input from teachers, students, parents nor local school officials. The top-down approach included the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation for funding and leftist organizations based in DC.
This is not a surprise for people following the Common Core story. For the Unions, it’s about power. Common Core puts the power into the hands of the Federal Government manipulated by Big Business and Big Testing and Big Foundation (with Bill Gates as the nexus here). So, Common Core must be stopped, because ... unions.
Spiraling downward.
ping!
American Federation of Teachers, not the party shills of the NEA. Thanks lilyramone.
Chelsea Clinton: “Like, ya know like, well, like I’m like so like smarter ya know like because like ya know I went to Sidwell. Ya know?”
lol
