Jose Antonio Vargas was once well-known for being a star up-and-coming journalist at The Washington Post, a Pulitzer Prize winner before he hit the age of 30.
Today, hes best known for being Americas most prominent undocumented immigrant, after he wrote a coming out piece for The New York Times Magazine in 2011. Despite his high profile or, more likely, because of it he has avoided detention or deportation. He lives in the United States, runs a nonprofit that employs a dozen Americans and travels extensively using his valid Philippine passport. SNIP
Two weeks ago, he was in the news when his documentary Documented aired on CNN. This week, hes in the news because, after traveling to McAllen to document the experience of young migrants living in shelters there, hes realized that the more stringent ID checks at the Texas border may have him stuck there.
Since outing myself three years ago, Ive been traveling around the country for Define American and visiting 43 states. And Ive been flying by using my Philippine passport no visa in the passport, just for ID purposes. And its been fine. TSA accepts it.
But though Ive spent time in the California border, and Ive flown out of the San Diego airport many times, Ive been never to the Texas border. Id heard about checkpoints and border patrol agents, but I didnt realize just how much a militarized zone the Texas border is. I didnt know that border patrol agents check IDs with airport security agents. Ive spoken with a few undocumented people who live in the McAllen area, and they feel trapped. I dont think the American public at large understands that reality for undocumented people in the border.

BTW, The Dallas Morning News report includes a propaganda video by Vargas filmed inside a private shelter in McAllen for some of the illegal alien invaders.
Let's trade him for Sgt. Tahmooressi.
Philippine passport does not equal undocumented
My Filipina wife has a passport ... but is not yet complete on the permanent green card
Good, send him home
Waaaaaaaaaait just a rock pickin' minute.
He has a Phillipine passport? But he can't be expected to acquire American documentation?
More famous than Obama?
I am so ashamed. For all the Filipinos who obeyed the law and are grateful to be American citizens, I apologize deeply.
If he were a relative of mine, I’d hit his behind with a wooden slipper and send him back to the provinces to live with his grandparents and put him to work planting rice.
Oleoleoleole. Ole. OLE!
There’s that 11 million number again. Does the media really believe that the population is so stupid as to believe the hordes invading our country has not budged that 11 million number upward for over 10+ YEARS??? I am not that stupid - if they are “IN THE SHADOWS” then how would anyone know the number? But we do know that hundreds of thousands have arrived in just the past few months so let’s at least start reporting 12 MILLION since zero is deporting NO ONE.
Kick this invader down a dark dusty trail to enjoy a Mexican blanket party with his cartel cacti sympathizers. Get out amigo.
To all the Filipinos who obeyed the law and are grateful to be American citizens, I just want to say what an honor it is to have you as fellow citizens.
“”The feeling of being stuck and trapped by our broken immigration system is very familiar to undocumented people like me.””
You have to be kidding!!!! OUR broken immigration system?
He said he’s at the border - where? Is he in the airport in McAllen? Lock him up before he spreads any more of his tree hugging feel good nonsense.
I disagree. America's most famous 'undocumented immigrant' (illegal alien invader) is Baraq Hussein mohammed 0bama. He wouldn't go with Perry to the border, because of the chance he'd be locked out or locked up.
You are most kind. It is an honor to be an American through the grace of God.
“I have no control over what the government chooses to do. But like the other 11 million undocumented immigrants whose lives are in limbo, I am not a threat to this country. Should people continue to be needlessly detained and deported while our government cant come up with a compromise and provide a solution?”
OUR government? OUR? No honey, become a citizen legally and then it will be YOUR government.
“You have to be kidding!!!! OUR broken immigration system?”
I’m glad you caught that also.
This pretentious wetback should be hunted down and jailed.
He sounds like a squatter who says to the homeowner who discovers him,”Welcome to our home.”
Would the solution be, GO HOME?
They should deport him as an example.
Once again, the # 11,000,000 was being used in the 90’s as the # of illegals in the US. The actual number today has to be at least 30 - 40 million.
Amnesty at this time might make this country flip over...
And the only way to fix it is to make them US Citizens. Just ask Rubio.
He will go to Mexico City, fly to Manilla and then fly to LAX and enter the US.
You thumb your nose at the law repeatedly and sooner or later it will bite you. Gordon Kahl found that out in 1983. Anybody remember him?
Our Most Famous
Undocumented Illegal Alien is living in our White House. I defy anyone to show me proof that he is an American.
I am hoping for baby pictures of malia and sasha. Happy mother and father.
NO? You mean Michelle is really Mikael?
“Americas most prominent undocumented immigrant” ???
How did he get jumped ahead of Barack Obama?
Not to pick nits, but the fact that his mother is a US Citizen pretty much closes the case on being a citizen. Being qualified for the Presidency, is altogether something else.
But, I do not want to start a battle.
And I, as a representative of the American public at large, do not give a rat's ass.
They are not undocumented...they are ILLEGAL, dumbass!
And that....is why we get called names.
“And that....is why we get called names.”
What’s this “we” thing? You got a mouse in your pocket? I don’t recall being called names...
Send him backto Manila. My relatives had to study and work hard for their green cards
