The 4 NYC teachers banned from classrooms who rake in millions
NY Post ^ | 07/13/2007 | Susan Edelman

Three of the city’s longest-running “rubber room” teachers have raked in more than $1 million each for a decade of not working in classrooms, and a fourth is paid a top salary — $100,049 a year — not to teach. The Foul Four — who beat sexual-misconduct charges — can’t be fired by the Department of Education because they are entitled to job protections under state tenure laws, which require “due process.” Educators are entitled to a trial with an independent hearing officer who decides whether any misconduct warrants termination.

I think you have to be a member of the union and molest a child.

Unions aren’t there working for the taxpayers. A situation that’s so predictable.

Easy...and I say this as a recovering educator. Get yourself a degree in education. Sign on with a big-city district with an all-powerful union. Kiss the backside of your principal and your local union shop steward on a daily basis. Work just enough to get tenure, then kick back and ride the gravy train for the next 25 years or so.

And if you decide to break the law, make sure the union has your back and exercise every hearing and appeal that you’re entitled to under existing regulations. If you’re sent to a “rubber room,” no sweat. Great chance to work on a graduate degree, or maybe launch an outside business. Previous reporting by the New York Post indicates that several rubber room teachers got other jobs and some sold real estate on the side.

I’m told the appeals process in NYC takes at least 10 years, so if the aspiring teacher/felon times it right, you can retire (with full pension) before your case is decided. I’ve also heard that granting retirement to educators in the rubber room is virtually automatic, since it “gets rid of a problem.”

Only in America and only in our education system.

What made you quit your career in education?

In Glenn Beck's Arguing with Idiots, there is a flowchart of what must be done to fire a NYC teacher. It's enough to make your head spin...

Every week I read yet another story that makes me soooo damn glad I moved out of that fetid, rotten, stinking, vomit inducing liberal cesspool posing as a city. I think it was last week I read a story of a pederast posing as a teacher who sent a boy 800 text messages, brought him out on “dates”, bought games and toys for him, told him how much he loved him etc etc ...and he was NOT FIRED as well, merely suspended. That city is on a fast track to becoming Detroit 2, I don’t know how Wall street is going to deal with that. I mean, either they move the whole operation or they end up getting taxed into oblivion. They are going to have to move, I don’t care how much money you make, getting taxed 80% before getting slammed with 90000 other taxes, only an idiot would deal with that kind of situation. There’s no need for Wall street down there anymore anyway, I mean what is the point of having that location? NYC is dead, it’s like doing business in a landfill.

Teachers = more sexual misconduct than liberals could possibly dream up for the Catholic Church.

This is the barometer of how doomed America is.

The Criminals are in charge
and the (alleged) “Press” are their PR-reps.

It appears that the four predators are White, I therefore assume that all the victims are also White because there is no discussion of racial harassment and financial remuneration to the victims; which they certainly would be entitled to.
You ever notice that victims of sexual harassment, particularly those who are union members, never ask the union to disciple the alleged perpetrators?
I guess some union members are more empowered than others.

There was a story just last week. Male teacher and a 14 year old boy. Somehow the teacher got off, even though the facts were not really in dispute.

Funny thing is if the libtard unions would fix this and allow these turds to be flushed there would be a lot more people sympathetic with them.

Sorry to rain on your dispersal of seriously incorrect misinformation, but...

You cannot "kick back and ride the gravy train" NOW with (a) Commie Core lessons to be written and graded, (b) the huge amount of test prep currently required, (c) the 22 elements of the Danielson framework to be followed and (d) students who openly tell you, "I'm gonna get you fired, bitch," knowing what buzzwords to use in their fabrication to do exactly that. And if that's how YOU undertook your job as a teacher--kicking back and riding the gravy train--I'm glad you're out.

The "all-powerful union" you mention gave its power away with both hands. They are now a laughable paper tiger deliriously happy to take $1300 from your paychecks/year to do basically nothing on your behalf, but stab you in the back in collusion with the Bored of Ed.

There are basically no more rubber rooms, and haven't been for a couple of years, so your information is out of date. And, contrary to the anti-teacher propaganda spread by tabloids like the New York Post, rubber rooms were overwhelmingly populated by what amounted to political prisoners--teachers who had run afoul of an administrator for some reason, usually having nothing to do with their teaching. So the administrator would start to generate documentation to "prove" something bad about the teacher. This included walking into classrooms and openly soliciting the students to write statements against their teacher!

The new horrific contract streamlines the termination of veteran teachers placed in the Absentee Teacher Reserve because their schools were closed. They are treated differently and in a far inferior manner to teachers posted in regular positions in still unclosed schools in the new contract, even though they are paying equal dues. If accused by 2 different principals of as-yet totally unspecified accusations, teachers in the A.T.R. pool get a one-day hearing to be terminated, not "10 years". And this is the thanks they get for decades of devoted teaching to the students of NYC.

If you are relying on the New York Post for your information, just remember that it is owned by the scurrilous Rupert Murdoch, a crony of former mayor and teacher hater Bloomberg. You are just as likely to see page after page of scantily clad women and sexually explicit photos in its issues as you are to see anything resembling professionally written news stories.

Common core testing is not repaired by the local teachers. If Common Core is fully implemented via Internet, the testing and the grading will be done in some centralized location, the results analyzed and the student scores will become part of a permanent record.
