IRBIL, Iraq -- A supposedly secret but locally well-known CIA station on the outskirts of Irbils airport is undergoing rapid expansion as the United States considers whether to engage in a war against Islamist militants whove seized control of half of Iraq in the past month.
Western contractors hired to expand the facility and a local intelligence official confirmed the construction project, which is visible from the main highway linking Irbil to Mosul, the city whose fall June 9 triggered the Islamic States sweep through northern and central Iraq. Residents around the airport say they can hear daily what they suspect are American drones taking off and landing at the facility.
Expansion of the facility comes as it seems all but certain that the autonomous Kurdish regional government and the central government in Baghdad, never easy partners, are headed for an irrevocable split _ complicating any U.S. military hopes of coordinating the two entities efforts against the Islamic State.
NEVER ALLY WITH THE TREACHEROUS USSA!!!!!
Israel may be a good ally.
And why is the Miami Herald publishing this?
a well-known secret.....okay
Was thinking the exact same thing - but the Kurds are pretty smart, maybe they just string us along for some bling, no strings attached.
(They smile while we give them food, ammo, some heavy equipment, update some of their facilities - and then kick us out before Obozo can betray them....)
They might as well write about it. I was in Irbil in 2010-2011. Everyone new where the OGA compounds were then. Irbil was then and likely still is a place where Mata Hari would thrive. There were two western bars in the mostly Christian city of Ankawa, which is a bedroom community of Irbil. Western contractors, some locals, and whomever else used the two waterholes. It was a obvious place for someone who needed to have an ear for conversation. We additionally left a bunch of Bradley and M1 Abrams on one of our walled in compounds up there. Lots going on there and over in Jordan.
And..... the Kurdish region of Syria will be incorporated into former Iraqi Kurd region.
Iraq is a cash cow for the contractors and will provide wealth and riches at taxpayer expense for generations to come.
U.S. instigated turmoil will prevail because peace is not in the best interests of the contractors.
I’d say ‘some’ Israelis can pretend to be Arabs really well, if it were necessary.
