Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has finished undergoing therapy and counseling at an Army hospital in San Antonio and could return to active duty as early as Monday, a defense official tells CNN.
Some critics of the swap have said Bergdahl was a deserter who endangered colleagues searching for him.
An Army fact-finding investigation conducted in the months after his disappearance concluded he left his outpost deliberately and of his own free will, according to an official who was briefed on the report.
But there was no definitive conclusion Bergdahl was a deserter because that would require knowing his intent, something officials couldn't learn without talking to him, a U.S. military official has said.

It’s not true they can’t determine his intent without talking to him. The Manual for Courts Martial says that circumstantial evidence can be used to determine intent to desert. Such things as prior to departure taking care of possessions or finances are among those actions listed that can be used to determine intent.
No doubt he will get a hero’s welcome. Do I really need to add the /sarcasm tag?
Is he a Warrant Officer yet?
Future military judge?
or DNC Senator?
Who ordered the code red?!?!
This is gonna work out well .
Get ready from some more “workplace violence.”
Every one of his team members say he deserted. They reveal in this article that the Army report acknowledged that he probably deserted.
The easy way out for the administration on this is to find a commander who will recommend some level of non-judicial punishment and a lesser discharge.
Should be a court martial and imprisonment, but that’ll make the Obama look ignorant publically. If Obama can say Bergdahl did face consequences and have those be very limited, then he gets to save a good bit of face.
Nothing they do can make up for the stupidity of trading 5 top generals for one deserter PFC.
> No doubt he will get a heros welcome. Do I really need to add the /sarcasm tag?
Obama may even install him as a national security advisor and convene with him routinely in the situation room.../s
I would not be surprised if the Obama regime transfered Bergdahl to The Old Guard.
Damn, I hate this bunch.
And I hear they wanted to trade more. That’s not a trade. That’s an enemy agent using a ruse to accomplish his task at hand for those he pledges his allegiance to.
looks like a duck-
quacks like a duck-
paddles around the pond, like a duck-
-—gee, whaaat caaaaan it be?????
Should this occur, the persons who exacted the “barracks justice” upon Bowe Bergdahl would themselves be subject to some pretty severe penalties.
Give the guy a discharge, and remove him from what is certain to be a very hostile workplace environment. There are any number of highly sympathetic venues where he never again has to fear retribution.
And yeah, it is a springboard to an elective office in a “safe” district.
It’s all about mentality. If a guy deserted because of supposed fear under fire. I would keep him out of combat action. There’s no knowing if he really has developed somehow better brass this time around.
Funny how the “manual” is not utilized in a civilian court (legal process)...
I say put him back on the front line...
They will love him being there...By both sides...
I’m betting they assign him to a Personnel Control Facility. It’s not a jail. It’s more of a temporary holding facility.
Will Obama give Raymond Shaw, er, Bowe Bergdahl the Medal of Honor?
His first order of business should be to get his dress uniform squared away for his upcoming hearing(s).
On a somewhat similar note, where was Obama when I was 10 and into baseball cards? I could have swindled him out of all his best baseball cards for a Dal Maxvill...
Get ready for Ft. Hood II....
My guess is that he will be processed for discharge the day after he returns to active duty. With accumulated leave he will probably never actually return to active duty. If his ‘capture’ is considered valid service time then he will get a very large payout from the Army for accumulated pay and leave.
Blanket party times 10.
How much back pay is due this guy????
Nah, no hero’s welcome for this action. The ‘Progressives’ would only consider him a real hero had he ‘fracked’ his superiors.
It is important for the Administrations to maintain the narrative that Bergdahl served honorably.
Any blanket parties in his future, or will he be bunking in the brig at night?
There it is, frontline troops. You’re service is no better than some lousy deserter’s. Your CIC has spoken.
I’ve read numbers from 300,000 to 600,000. I don’t know how the latter makes sense unless they’re adding some kind of COLA for an Afghani Nomad Tent.
Bergdahl is a weapon of contention and the Trojan horse in charge, along with the party that rode him to power, live to use weapons like Bergdahl against US, especially against our military.
In this world, we are all food for something and those who feed upon the emotions of others will savor the reactions to Bergdahl's being returned to active duty.
Actually, my concern was that this traitor will go Jihad on other soldiers, not that they’ll code red his butt.
They have had sufficient time to do a thorough and complete investigation. However, they have failed to do so as evidenced by the fact that the members of his unit at the time of desertion have not been interviewed. Sounds like more WH hanky-panky going on.
I still believe they’re going to say he was on a special undercover mission.
They’ll say he had a tracking device up his butt. I don’t put anything past them.
Like anyone would want him in their unit......
Just so everyone knows - for them to start any UCMJ procedures (ie courts-martial) he has to be returned to active duty first. Not saying this is what they are doing, just a fact.
Yep. Non Judicial punishment. Reduction in pay grade from Sgt. to PFC and a $5,000 fine. That means he goes back to where he was in rank and gets oodles of back pay at sergeant’s pay.
If a guy deserted because of supposed fear under fire. I would keep him out of combat action.
He and his father communicated over email; they both expressed anti American sentiments.
He WALKED OFF POST IN AFGHANISTAN. He asked locals where he might find the Taliban.
Does that sound like “Battle Fatigue?”
They promoted him to SSG. Who would work for him?
Only congress can award the Medal of Honor.
That’s not battle fatigue. I’ve seen it up close and personal. I remember one troop just absolutely shell-shocked (a young SF troop, actually). He was totally crawled inside himself and unresponsive, downcast, withdrawn. Sadly, I think the med team did him a disservice by sending him back Conus to Ft Sam. The proper treatment we always said at the time was “3 hots and a cot”. A sane person IS afraid of getting shot, so his reaction was not some mental disturbance. Their actions might have convinced him long run that something was broke inside him. Going back to the battle after rest would have given him another shot at it after reflection.
So they still “can’t talk to him to determine intent” because of his fragile eggshell mind yet he’s fit to return to active duty?
Never have heard if Nidal Hasan had to surrender his half million in civil penalties or not.
Bergdahl Is Set to Resume Life on Active Duty
WASHINGTON Six weeks after being released from five years in Taliban captivity, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl is expected to return to life as a regular Army soldier as early as Monday, Defense Department officials said late Sunday.
Sergeant Bergdahl has finished undergoing therapy and counseling at an Army hospital in San Antonio, and will assume a job at the Army North headquarters at the same base, Fort Sam Houston, the officials said.
He is also expected to meet with Maj. Gen. Kenneth R. Dahl, the officer who is investigating the circumstances of Sergeant Bergdahls disappearance from his outpost in Afghanistan in 2009.
Sergeant Bergdahls transfer from the therapy phase to a regular soldiers job is part of his reintegration into Army life, officials said. He will live in barracks and have two other soldiers help him readjust.
This is absolutely nuts. He was supposedly so traumatized by his abuse at the hands of the Taliban that he had to give up information that helped out the Taliban, and yet he’s already “all better” to go back to combat supposedly fighting for our side (the American people’s side, that is)?
This blows their whole “Stockholm Syndrome” narrative.
This whole thing just stinks. Like everything else this regime has anything to do with.
Happens all the time. Remember John Kerry's secret Christmastime mission to Cambodia?
