Hard Sell—Hillary Clinton’s “Hard Choices” Flops
Accuracy In Media ^ | July 11, 2014 | Don Irvine

The sales of Hillary Clinton’s new book, Hard Choices, which wasn’t selling all that well to begin with, have fallen off a cliff, saddling her publisher with huge losses.

According to Nielsen BookScan, which tracks sales at over 80 percent of the book vendors in the U.S., Hard Choices sold just 28,000 copies in its third week, which is down from 48,000 the previous week and 85,000 when it first became available for sale. Add in estimated e-book sales of 20,000, and the total sales figure comes to just 181,000.

While the sales are an embarrassment for Clinton, they’re disastrous for Simon and Schuster, which was so confident they had another sure-fire hit on their hands that they gave Clinton a $14 million advance. That means, based on hardcover sales, the publisher has paid Clinton almost $87 per book sold, which is almost two and a half times the $35 cover price of the book. By comparison, Hillary’s first book, Living History, sold over 1.15 million copies overall, meaning that she was paid roughly $7 per book, based on her $8 million advance for that title.

Not only is Simon and Schuster facing losses of over $10 million on the book, but with one million copies shipped they are bracing for a massive flood of returns from bookstores—books that they will have to dispose of somehow.

Adding insult to injury, Hard Choices was knocked from the No. 1 spot on the New York Times best-seller list this week by the anti-Clinton book Blood Feud by Edward Klein. It’s even worse on Amazon, where Hard Choices has fallen to 119th compared to 13th for Blood Feud.

lol

Who woulda thunk?

This is just funny....and ironic that she gipped out 14 million as she claimed she was in poverty just a short few years back.

Wow. Hillary has gone from being an author would could sell over a million, with Living History, to one who can’t crack 200,000 hardcover sales with her latest book. Wow. Just wow.

I expect she is still running for pres and will have strong support. But I think her bad book tour and slow sales show that there is not great excitement about the Clintons anymore. If there ever was.

I think she gets to keep her $14 million dollar advance for the book regardless of how it sells (or doesn't sell as the case may be).

No one has really addressed the issue of book payments vs. book advances. If they ‘advanced’ her $14M on predicted sales and they never materialize, she owes them the prorated difference.

If, on the other hand, they GAVE her the $14M, then it was criminal conspiracy to defraud stockholders (if it is a publicly traded company).

So COSTCO will be removing Hillary!’s book, right?

Origins: Political commentator Dinesh D’Souza was the focus of a publishing brouhaha in July 2014 when the Costco chain of warehouse discount stores, citing poor sales, pulled his book America: Imagine the World Without Her from their shelves just as a film based upon that work (America) was hitting theaters. Critics charged that Costco’s actions were politically motivated because D’Souza’s work is highly critical of President Barack Obama, with whom the Costco chain has significant friendly ties:
Costco has pulled from its stores a new book by virulent anti-Obama author Dinesh D’Souza, setting off a landslide of suspicion, criticism and racy innuendo from media voices on the right.

The co-founders of the Issaquah-based retail giant, Jim Sinegal and Jeffrey Brotman, both hosted the 44th president in 2012 for fundraisers in their homes. Both Obama and Vice President Joe Biden have visited Costco stores, and Sinegal spoke at the 2012 Democratic Convention.

The official reason for removal of the book is slow sales, a Costco official [said]. The book had reportedly sold 3,600 copies at Costco, 700 of them [the previous] week.
Costco’s response to inquiries about the issue has been to assert that their motivation for pulling D’Souza’s book from their shelves was based on sales rather than politics:
Costco is not influenced by political considerations in selecting product for sale in our warehouses or on Costco.com. This includes our selection of books. Our book buyers are solely interested in book sales, and do not favor any political persuasion over another. Recently, after deciding to sell the book “America: Imagine the World Without Her”, beginning on June 1, a decision was made to pull the book from sale on July 1. This decision was based solely on the number of copies sold during that month, and had nothing to do with the content of the book.

Costco is not a book store. Our book shelf space is very limited. We exercise discipline in the best utilization of that limited space based solely on what our members are buying. We can’t carry every title that our members are interested in reading. We are constantly monitoring book sales, and make decisions to pull books off the shelves frequently based on sales volume to make room for other titles. Politics or controversy over content do not influence our decisions.
By the end of the day on 8 July 2014, Costco began adding a paragraph to their standard customer response indicating that they had reversed their position and would be re-stocking D’Souza’s America: Imagine a World Without Her:
After we made the return, a documentary was released about the book. Since then there has been heightened interest by our membership base and brisk sales at locations still in stock. Therefore, we have made the decision to reorder the book.

AP July 14, 2015. HEADLINE: Simon and Schuster Pay Record Advance

Simon and Schuster have paid a record advance of $20 million to Hillary Clinton for her new book “Easy Choice” which promises to answer the question on everyone’s mind: Why did she she decline to run for President when she could have almost danced her way through the 2016 election and into the Oval Office.

Was it because of Bill? Obama? Michelle? Ted Cruz?

Does she get to keep that “advance”? It’s probably more of a campaign contribution.

I think most people have concluded that she is a Bitter Clinger (to Bill) who has no individual talent or charisma.

She is a criminal and should be in prison. Where is the $6,000,000,000.00 that was “unaccounted for” under her SOS watch? What about Benghazi?

My Costco membership expires this month. I sent them an e-mail expressing my displeasure at the pulling of the Dinesh D’Souza book and stating I probably would not be renewing. They sent me that form e-mail about not being political and based on sales. If Hillary’s book is not pulled I will have to think I was lied to and move on to Sam’s Club.

Strong support, hmm..

I’ve spoken with a few of the party-line liberals I know (a few oddball family members, a few co-workers) extensively on this topic, and they mainly seem to support her because of this perception that she’s a shoe-in electorally.

But here’s the kicker: while they’re not crazy about her personally (not liking the “Clinton baggage,” not liking the idea of a dynasty, thinking she’s shrill, etc), they know that she’ll stack the courts for their pet causes. They’re looking at the ages of certain Supreme Court members, and they’re betting that the court system will be theirs for a generation.

I despise their politics, but their long view on things is remarkable.

Hitlery’s crappy book is currently # 120 on Amazom’s best seller list while Dinish D’Souza’s “America” remains at #1.

Look - "book deals" are how the Left launders money.

This is nothing more than a campaign donation to Hillary for her 2016 run.

What a video photo-op that would make, if someone could figure out when the trucks will show up and where the books will be dumped.

Think of all those poor trees destroyed for nothing. Think of the damage to the environment caused by Hillary and Simon & Schuster.
