It can be embarrassing to admit just how much our political system has in common with the fashion industry, but lets allow that there is at least one glaring similarity. Just like fashion trends, a policy issue can be in one minute, out by the next election cycle, only to come back when media coverage makes it hot again.
Immigration reformthe issue that was dubbed politically DOA thanks in part to Rep. Eric Cantors stunning primary upsetis now hot, thanks to the current child immigrant crisis. Liberals here now have a chance to gain the upper hand in terms of messaging, just in time for midterm elections. But only if they dont blow it, which many of them seem determined to do.
Unlike other issues, such as those involving reproductive rights, immigration is not something that has enjoyed universal support among Democrats and Democratic-leaning demographic groups. A 2006 analysis by Gallup, for example, found that blacks were far more likely to oppose immigration than other racial groups.
But Gallup also found that Americans attitudes about immigration grew more positive in the last decade regardless of race. For instance, in 2002, only 46% of blacks polled labeled immigration a good thing for the country. By last year that number climbed to 70 percent. In 2002, 51% of whites labeled it a good thing. Last year the number stood at 71 percent.
So what explains the shift? Well, some of it is purely a numbers game. Asian Americans are currently the fastest-growing ethnic group in America, with much of their U.S. population growth fueled by immigration. Hispanics, meanwhile, are now Americas second-largest ethnic group behind white Americans. This means the likelihood of Americans coming into contact with an immigrant or someone who has immigrant relatives is higher today than it once was.

The problem was it is a straw man. When you ask if 15 year old Manuel who has three years education and is infected can enter the country? This is quite different than a bland person who wants to come here.
They never asked if the people opposed ILLEGAL immigration.
Apparently, “immigration reform” is supposed to be dropping ANY limitations on entry to the territory once known as “the United States of America”, any time, at any point along its formerly defined boundaries.
It used to be that such entry into another country was largely the result of the new occupants arriving with heavy armament and malovent intent. 75 years ago, it was called “Blitzkrieg”.
And Republicans are supposed to adopt this strategy - why?
It's Liberal Love for Power, and the low-information voters that help them keep it.
They’re “undocumented migrants”. We don’t want to hurt their feelings.
If you worthless Teabaggers were more sensitive, you’d understand that!
What are we to think of a government ACTIVELY AIDING people in breaking certain laws and RUTHLESS CRUSHING protesters demanding those laws be upheld?
Does the law matter at all? All Obama’s done is spit out all kinds of rules and regulations governing the way average Americans live. Why should they be expected to follow any of it?
Read my whole response - not just the first two sentences. (I was being sarcastic)
