Posted on 07/14/2014 4:11:20 PM PDT by Hostage
Sen. Thad Cochran's (R-MS) lawyer initially brought information about a blogger photographing Cochran's wife at her retirement home to the mayor of Madison, Mississippi, not police, according to The New York Times.
The Times' story is about Tea Party leader Mark Mayfield, who was arrested in connection with the blogger break-in incident and later committed suicide three days after Cochran won the runoff election against state Senator Chris McDaniel.
In one of the most notorious episodes in what is widely considered the most ugly and bitter primary battle in the election cylce, a crazed blogger snuck into Cochran's wife's retirement home to photograph her, an image of which he used in a video designed to fuel rumors that Cochran was carrying on an affair with his longtime executive assistant.
But in the months since the incident and the subsequent arrests of the blogger, Mayfield and several others alleged to have conspired with him, a key question, raised by McDaniel and others, has remained unanswered: why did Cochran wait nearly three weeks after learning about the incident before contacting the authorities?
(Excerpt) Read more at breitbart.com ...
McDaniel had nothing to do with the nursing home incident.
Mark Mayfield was innocent of the crime he was charged with and which caused his death.
The Madison Police Department is a rogue operation with blood on their hands.
Madison Mayor Butler is a hack with blood on her hands.
The NRSC has blood on their hands.
All Cochran donors in the Senate have blood on their hands. (See 'Thad Cochran's Enablers')
To the question of why Cochran waited nearly three weeks after learning about the incident before contacting the authorities, the answer is clear:
The original negative hit that McDaniel took after the news broke about the nursing home incident quickly dissipated as voters saw that McDaniel was not connected and then McDaniel's popularity ratings began soaring.
In order to get the McDaniel back in the negative pinch and on the defensive again, Cochran and his attorney coordinated a hit with the Mayor of Madison who was a Cochran supporter on an innocent tea party activist Mark Mayfield. Mark Mayfield's blood is on their hands.
Please ping the MS list, thank you.
This is one of the ugliest political races I’ve ever seen. Just continues to get uglier the more we see.
The MS GOPe’s are as corrupt as they come.
Cochran went to the Mayor before the Police?
Vote that Mayor out and Fire the Police Chief!
Copied and pasted from Breitbart the way it was there, in caps. Will note for future postings.
I know - Nothing personal...the LOOK AT ME HEADLINES are tiresome - even from Breitbart.
I wonder how many of the MS SC justices were appointed by Barbour?
Hasn’t Butler been mayor forever?
Good analysis, the only thing I disagree with is that Cochran didn’t go to the mayor, it was either his staff or campaign, I doubt he has made any decisions in a long time. I also believe Kay Webber is Senator Cochran’s personal handler/nurse to see him through the day and on trips. Probably paid in some way for her influence by BGR.
Actually the report says Cochran himself with his lawyer went to the Mayor of Madison who is a longtime support of Cochran.
I agree the whole affair with Cochran’s wife and Kay Webber as ‘mistress’ is a dimwitted attempt at scandalizing Cochran. And Cochran showed restraint as the initial reaction among the voters was negative to McDaniel until he was able to make his case that he had nothing to do with that attempt at scandal. It was McDaniel that called the dimwits behind the scandal and read them the riot act. The result was the video was pulled within hours of it being posted.
But the problem is not with the scandal-nonscandal. The problem was Cochran’s response following McDaniel’s primary win.
Cochran decided to hit back by leaning on his longtime supporter in Mayor Butler. Mayor Butler had her police department carry out an awful travesty of justice causing an innocent man to lose his livelihood and standing, and end his life as a result of Cochran’s knuckleheads. And I believe Cochran and his attorney are the Chief Knuckleheads along with the NRSC. They conspired against an innocent tea party supporter close to McDaniel to grind him to his death.
I think this story should be national news.
Don’t know but she’s a strong Cochran supporter. Nothing wrong with that but she allowed her town and its police department to be used as a tool in rogue fashion by Cochran and his attorney.
Rather than initiate an investigation being careful to treat people as innocent until proven guilty, she had them launch a brutal assault against people, one of whom was completely innocent and not even involved and who was paraded around as an enemy of the state of the highest order, and who was shown in Cochran ads in cuffs as a felon. The result was this man, a well-respected lawyer, Christian, family man and pillar of his community, lost his standing and his livelihood and was found dead of a gun wound.
Not only that, this man did not even reside in the town of Madison where Mayor Butler’s police had so brutally mistreated him. He resided in the town of Ridgeland. And, the Madison PD on the day of his death, four of their officers went outside the limits of the town of Madison, to ‘confirm’ he was dead. They had no business doing that as the investigation jurisdiction was with the Ridgeland PD.
My point was I believe someone other than Cochran made the decision to talk to the Mayor instead of the police and apparently decided his lawyer should take him. I don’t believe Thad is capable of rational decisions and his handlers know it.
It was reported that he, Cochran and his attorney were on the conference call with the Mayor.
Cochran is not so far gone yet.
Did he say anything other than “this is thad”? I’m probably hung up on the “farm animal” quote and the pro “obamacare” interview that his handlers later claimed he was talking about the VA. They didn’t let him out before the primary, then they let him speak and after the first two exposures they locked him back up and went after the runoff the democrat way. I still believe he’s being handled and managed.
It could be so. But so far it’s not provable and therefore not important.
The name or word ‘Cochran’ represents the political infrastructure of MS and links to the Barbour gang.
‘Cochran’ means more than just Thad.
“Cochran means more than just Thad.”
“The name or word Cochran represents the political infrastructure of MS and links to the Barbour gang.”
It really does, but don’t forget the NRC and NRSC.
I was just thinking.
Mark Mayfield was completely innocent of any wrongdoing in this affair of Rose Cochran, yet his whole life was destroyed and led to his death starting with that conference call by Thad Cochran, his lawyer and the Mayor of Madison (longtime supporter of Cochran).
Mark Mayfield was assaulted and brutalized because he was a prominent and capable tea party organizer and he was close to Chris McDaniel.
I was thinking that if the Mayfield family files a wrongful death lawsuit (and they have said they will be filing a lawsuit), this could lead to Cochran himself, regardless of his rumored dementia. And it will also lead to the communications director of the NRSC who hounded Mark until his dying day with unfounded statements that Mark was a felon who needed to be jailed.
So the observation that Thad Cochran was in on that phone call is serious, quote serious.
Sue ‘em, lawyers gotta eat same as buzzards and worms.
written by one our own Freepers. Read also thecomments to get a sense of the loss of this life. Hell I'll just post one of the comments from 'Claire' that brings it home:
Mark Mayfield was a close family friend. My family still lives in Jackson, where I grew up. When I've spoken to my parents recently they've said Jackson is a powder keg right now.
While they both voted for McDaniel, many of their upperclass Northeast Jackson & Madison friends did not. It's obvious why--their only syllogization for voting for Thad was his legacy; and by legacy, I mean years occupying a seat in the Senate; not actually accomplishing anything in the way of progress for our infamously superlative state. That and the #RebelsForThad hashtag trending on Twitter. Actually, no -- the hashtag was clearly the dominant persuading factor.
My dad shares Mr. Mayfield's deep commitment to the Tea Party ideology, particularly economic & immigration reform. He told me many times before Mr. Mayfield's death how much he respected the work he was doing. He noted how brave he was & how much conviction he must have to oppose an institution so deeply ingrained in Mississippi & Jackson society. My dad told me on many occasions there's nothing those corrupt, establishment good ole' boys wouldn't do to protect their money.
This incident reminded me of another from when I was younger. My parents were also acquaintances with Dickie Scruggs--one of the richest men in Mississippi who was just released from prison after being convicted of bribing a judge with $40K for a favorable ruling in a minor fee dispute.
Again, like my dad has always said--you never know someone until you come between them & their money.
The Tea Party in Mississippi (and nationally) is destabilizing the establishment's long-standing racquet. We are exposing the corruption that has gone on for years & in-so doing, disturbing their honey pot.
Mark Mayfield was so committed to the ideals for which the Tea Party stands because he SO sincerely believed they would improve the state of things for everyone in our state & in our country. He was the lease extreme, political man you could imagine. Instead, he was enormously kind, humble... he was, as Jen described, a true Southern Gentleman. In combination with being a truly good man, he also happened to be one with tremendous strength of conviction. His conviction compelled him to take action where many of us fall short, lacking strength to fight this evil system.
I cannot imagine how they must have tortured him to push him to this. He loved his family SO much, as much as any man I know. He was very close with his two sons & also very active in his church. They must have bullied him relentlessly; they must have been so cruel & deliberate, to push him to this.
Mr. Mayfield's death has shaken up so many of us. I've vacillated between a range of emotions from enormous grief, as the loss of a great man & friend; terror, at the prospect that this is what happens when the most courageous among us stand up to this system; anger, at the depraved men, including Brad Dayspring who have blood on their hands and are surely going to the hell they proclaim to fear so much for the sick pleasure they took in leading this witch hunt.
I'm trying to get beyond feeling vindictive: no other family should have to suffer like the Mayfields, as a results of the dangerous game of politics. However, this corrupt institution needs to be completely uprooted.
I can't imagine it getting any uglier than this; but I fear it will. We all need to band together & be strong. As Mr. Mayfield's sons posted following his death, "We will persevere and stay the course." In his honor, we will prevail.
Thank you Jen for this beautifully & poignantly written article exposing the deep-rooted evil & dangers inherent in politics today.
Yes, I don’t want to appear callous about Mark Mayfield, I have friends who have met him on occasion and this was indeed a tragedy. The burglary being kept quite for three weeks and then being pursued as Cochran was falling in the polls says something. I believe Mr. Mayfield was brought into it only to drag the Tea Party and a friend of senator McDaniel into the conflict and the high bond was to exaggerate the seriousness of the crime and Mark Mayfied’s involvement and importance in the plot, whether he had anything to do with it or not.
The evidence that the Madison PD had on him was from a Facebook discussion which he had no part in. The discussion between others raised his name up and said he declined to have a part in making a photo or video of Cochran’s wife but maybe someone else could be found and maybe Mark could help find someone else.
That’s all the Madison PD had on him and yet they brutally barged into his office in Madison like a swat team, scared his staff and took him away in cuffs. Then they booked him and gave the photos of him in cuffs to Cochran’s people who then ran a campaign ad that falsely accused him of being a felon tied to the tea party and Chris McDaniel.
It was dirty beyond the pale.
He lost everything. His clients dumped him, his standing in the community was demolished and why? Because some dimwits raised his name up in a Facebook chat.
And now he’s dead and his wife and children have pain that will never heal.
And to top it off, the Madison PD with 4 officers ventured out of Madison out of their jurisdiction into the township of Ridgeland where Mayfield lived to ‘confirm’ Mayfield was dead. They could have called the Ridgeland PD, but they chose not to. They chose to trespass on the Mayfield family property to confirm his death. Everyone of them and the Madison PD police chief should be brought to justice.
Cochran needs to pay for this, demented or not, he needs to be brought to real justice along with all his cronies and gang members in DC and in Mississippi.
