The United States has blocked the transfer of Qatari funds earmarked for the salaries of civil servants hired by Hamas in Gaza, The Times of Israel has learned.
A diplomatic source in the Gulf state, speaking on condition of anonymity, said that Qatar had transferred hundreds of millions of dollars to Arab Bank for the salaries of some 44,000 Hamas civil servants. Those civil servants employed by Hamas in Gaza since its takeover of the Strip in 2007 were rendered jobless by the unity agreement with Fatah last month.
But the money was never processed by Arab Bank and delivered to Hamas, the source told The Times of Israel, due to pressure from the Americans, who consider Hamas a terror organization.
This is strange, since funds from Qatar have never been blocked in the past, the source said, referring to the $400 million aid package pledged by Qatari ruler Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa during his visit to Gaza in October 2012.
Hamass deputy political bureau chief Moussa Abu Marzouk lambasted Arab Bank for neglecting to process the funds in comments posted on his Facebook page June 28.

How did this miracle happen? This has got to make Obama’s sphincter tighten in anger.
Hundreds of millions?? Then they don’t need our money for their blood-sports!
This isn’t satire?
“The Times of Israel” doesn’t do satire ... :-) ...
I don’t believe I’ve ever heard of a single instance of where US money went to the Hamas Terrorist organization.
Good news? I hope.
That is, of course, a lie by Star Traveler, who is a troll. http://m.us.wsj.com/articles/why-should-americans-fund-hamas-1401913021?mobile=y
Wow. You are doing a lot of stalking tonight. How about chilling for a bit?
It burns me when someone tries to sibvert Free Republic for his own ting purposes. There is no reason to chill when something you love is being fundamentally transformed.
Which team are you on?
Subvert
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has lobbied Congress before to support the Palestinian Authority in Judea and Samaria. That’s long-standing policy with Israel and the USA. Israel wants it and the USA wants it in order to provide for the civil administration of Judea and Samaria and to keep Israeli soldiers out of harm’s way.
However, I know of no instance where the USA or Israel has ever backed or supported or given money to Hamas - except with Israel, in the very beginning with Hamas, when they wanted it as an offset to Arafat and the PLO. But Israel changed that policy quickly and never backed them again.
In the meantime, the “unity pact” has not given Hamas any control or actions in Judea or Samaria, which is where the Palestinian Authority (with Abbas) controls things, Hamas controls things over in Gaza and not in Palestinian Authority areas. And also, Hamas and the PA are enemies and kill each other whenever they get a chance, the “unity pact” is nothing that changes anything anything with how Israel still wants the PA to get funds for the administration of their territories in Judea and Samaria.
Israel right now is not sending their 48,000 reservists into PA territory in Judea and Samaria and neither is Israel killing PA officials and their operatives. BUT Israel is sending their reservists into Hamas territory, is killing Hamas officials and their operatives and are blowing up Hamas buildings.
Unfortunately too many people here in the USA have no idea what Israel and Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is doing and what they support and don’t support.
I hope that clears it up for you now ... :-) ...
I see that ypu and Star Traveler have maps marked in red showing the cointries that you have visited. You have Egypt, Saudi Arabia and the Inited Arab Emirates but not Israel.
Telling me to shut up without either conceding that my points are correct and your buddy Star Traveler is a troll or else showing where I am mistaken is an Alinskyite tactic. Free Republic threads engage in discussions of ideas. Telling me that I should shut up is a typical progressive tactic.
Personal attacks are a progressive tactic in lieu of reasoned discussion.
Everyone should gove to Free Republic, even Alinskyite trolls like you.
If youd like to be on or off, please FR mail me.
