Florida's Republicans legislative leaders pledged on Tuesday to redraw congressional districts that were found unconstitutional last week, but they warned that doing so before the November election would create "chaos and confusion."
Senate President Don Gaetz and House Speaker Will Weatherford said they wouldn't appeal Circuit Judge Terry Lewis' ruling that Florida's congressional districts were drawn to benefit the Republican Party.
But attorneys for the Legislature filed a lengthy motion asking Lewis to let this year's election proceed with the existing districts because changing boundaries now would cause problems. Nearly 1.4 million absentee ballots, including ballots headed overseas, have been mailed out in advance of the state's Aug. 26 primary.
"Any attempt to change the districts at this late stage of the 2014 elections process would cause chaos and confusion and would threaten the rights of our deployed military voters," said Gaetz and Weatherford in a joint statement.

Go back to the original intent and that is districts having one representative. For example, Duval County will have one representative no matter the population. No more drawing districts. It really is stupid. In Anne Arundel where I live, We are one county, but have FIVE different Representatives depending on where you live. That is crap. Anne Arundel County should have ONE Representative representing the entire population of Anne Arundel County PERIOD.
I happen to live in Duval county. Fortunatly not in Corrine Browns district. I’m sure it comes as no surprise that her district weaves and snakes through black neighborhoods from Duval county all the way to Orlando. (See info at the link). According to the story she’s suing to stop this from going forward.

Article I Section 2 Clause 3 followed by the 14th Amendment requires apportionment by respective numbers. If you want it done differently, craft an Amendment.
Districts have been drawn to benefit blacks, and thus democrats, for years. It’s called Gerrymandering. Another way of saying Gerryrigged. Which was another way of saying...
Keep in mind that this also benefits Republicans and conservatives. By stuffing all the diversity voters into one or two strongly Dem districts, they end up creating 4-5 surrounding moderately-R districts that usually elect Republicans (whether conservative or not is another matter).
IIRC, this Florida redistricting map actually hurt Tea Partier/conservative candidates, so shooting it down might not be such a bad thing...?
The RINOs in the state already have achieved what they wanted. TEA party candidates like Allen West lost their seats. Needless to say, I have zero faith in the republican party in this state. All I can say is, one Mississippi, two Mississippi and probably many more Mississippi-like states around the country where the republicans are more interested in letting the libs win than winning with a conservative.
Agreed. It’s time for a new party. Let the two wings of the uniparty consolidate, while we pick up the GOP conservative base, along with the right-leaning independents plus the millions who don’t even bother to vote anymore.
