The IDF launched an investigation into the incident in which four Palestinian children were killed on a Gaza beach Wednesday afternoon.
"The inquiry into the event by the IDF is ongoing at this time. Initial findings show that terror activists were in the area that was attacked and that it served as a launching point for terror activities."
The IDF statement said that "it is a tragic event if innocent civilians were hurt in the incident." The military stressed that "it is important to remember the cynical use of Gaza Strip residents by Hamas who hold them as hostages has brought about the cancellation of attacks on terror targets, as has been proven in the past few days."

Israel ambassador to U.S. Jews: Hamas winning war of public opinion
NEW YORK — Ambassador Ron Dermer, Israels chief diplomatic representative in the U.S., asked some 700 American Jews on a conference call this week for their help shifting the messaging on Israel. Israel is being routinely portrayed in both conventional and social media as an angry, well-armed giant leaving many innocent victims in its wake during the current crisis with Hamas, Dermer said.
The call was organized by the Jewish Federations of North America, which this week sent federation leaders to visit targeted towns in Israel, and the Jewish Council for Public Affairs. Dermer told his audience that Hamas may be winning the war over public opinion, as Israel is vilified for the civilian casualties its bombs cause in Gaza, while Hamas is not being blamed for instructing Palestinians to stay in their homes even when they have been warned by the IDF that the locations will be bombed imminently.
Hamas is putting its missile batteries and command centers next to schools and hospitals. That is a major war crime. While we are doing everything possible to keep civilians out of harms way, Hamas is trying to put their people into harms way. Gazas interior minister said people should ignore warnings and go back into their homes. We are taking action to minimize to the greatest extent possible number of civilian casualties, they are doing everything to maximize it.

We need to make ABSOLUTELY CLEAR when we talk about and support Israel, that it is NOT engaging in a GENOCIDAL CAMPAIGN against the Palestinian civilians - but that it’s HAMAS who is.
We must be STRONGLY EMPHATIC that Israel does NOT COMMIT WAR CRIMES against Palestinian civilians and explain the ways that Israel goes about avoiding collateral damage, while strongly attacking Hamas and its missiles that are flying into Israel.
If you believe that Israel should commit war crimes and engage in a GENOCIDAL CAMPAIGN against Palestinians — then just SHUT UP! ... because you’re doing Israel no favor with your genocidal talk!
Israel takes the hard but necessary step of not letting human shields stop it, if there is a menacing target needing to be neutralized. This has the side effect of keeping the world on notice that Hamas and their ilk DO that kind of cowardly thing.
If I was in IDF’s shoes, I’d have a web site that kept track of all the attacks and what happened. No need to keep this secret from the world.
Did you know that the IDF has posted videos showing where they have stopped an attack, because there were civilians there? They’ve posted those in the past to PROVE that they actually do stop an attack on the basis of civilians being harmed.
Geula Update from Rav Fish - Matot 5774
I wouldn`t dare let my 2 kids play on the beach in the MIDDLE OF A WAR!!
These people are NUTS!!!
That’s a big “if” that wouldn’t surprise me one bit.
If Hamas wants to use its kids as body armor, then it should be demonstrated what poor body armor they make. We Jews are supposed to have invented psychiatry, but there is no understanding of how to deal with evil people by the people in Israel. Not to mention anti-Semites throughout the world. Machiavelli's point about it being better to to be feared than loved applies to geo politics. Especially when dealing with world anti-Semitism.
You’re the kind of “support” that Israel wishes would disappear into the ether, because you help Israel in no way, shape or form — in regards to their constant battle against the false accusations that their enemies level against them.
Well ... I wouldn’t go that far in saying that. Have you seen the beaches in Tel Aviv? ... :-) ...
Ya know ... way back when ... when I was following the Six Day War, I thought World War III was about to begin then ... :-) ...
Fortunately, I’ve lived a few years beyond that war.
But, you know ... If enough people keep looking for World War III, I’m sure it will come along and oblige them.
There is a great article at Sultan Knish about the stupidity of winning the moral high ground by losing the war.
Usually these articles are posted by Louis Foxwell, but this one is so apt that I wanted to call it to your attention here.
A question arises - If Muslims are playing soccer on a sand beach instead of the traditional field, are they still “Grass Fairies”?
