Deputy AG to Look into ‘Circumstances’ Surrounding Missing Lois Lerner E-mails

(CNSNews.com) – Deputy Attorney General James Cole told a House Oversight and Government Reform Subcommittee Wednesday that he plans to investigate the Internal Revenue Service’s delay in notifying other agencies about the missing emails of former IRS official Lois Lerner.

During the hearing on the IRS scandal, Chairman Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) asked Cole whether he planned to investigate the fact that IRS Commissioner John Koskinen found out about the missing emails in April and waited two months to tell the American people and “more importantly” the DOJ.

“All the issues related to those emails will be wrapped up in the investigation that we do,” said Cole.

“Including the delay?” Jordan asked.

“Including the delay,” Cole replied.

“So the delay, the fact that the commissioner at the Internal Revenue Service delayed telling the Congress, the American people, the FBI, and the Justice Department, is a matter that you are going to investigate?” asked Jordan.

“We’re going to look into what the circumstances were around it, yes,” said Cole.

Rep. Matt Cartwright (D-Pa.) said everyone on the full committee wanted to know what happened to the missing emails, and he expressed skepticism about claims that the emails could not be recovered.

“I think I speak on behalf of the full committee that we all really want to know what happened to those missing emails – all of us. Now we all are somewhat skeptical that they can’t be recovered in some fashion – all of us,” said Cartwright.

“We urge you to do your utmost and urge your colleagues to find those missing e-mails, because when there are e-mails missing, it makes people suspicious, and then it leads to unfounded charges and reckless allegations, and this is an arena where reckless allegations find a home,” he said.

“So I think it would make a lot of sense to redouble your efforts to find those e-mails,” Cartwright added.

I sure have confidence. This is as reliable as Eric Holder investigations. “We’ve looked in to this and couldn’t find a smidgen of corruption anywhere in the administration. And you’re a racist.”

Whew! The Obama/Holder Justice Department is going to look into it. I’m much relieved!

Prediction: Not even a smidgeon of corruption.

Since when does plan to equate to actually doing? I can plan to run across the country tomorrow, don’t mean diddly if I never actually do it. Typical of demonrats saying you plan to something for them is the same as doing.

We are looking high and low!

Leave no stone unturned to root out corruption!

lol..this deputy who doesn't see a perceived conflict of interest with doj investigating irs and says no need for special prosecutor is not one to trust his apparent lack of ethics undermines his assertions.

he also asserted due to Olson's 1984 opinion that the ag had discretion as to present to grand jury or not the facts of the contempt. olsons opinion had to do with executive privilege which has not been asserted in this case..

lawless doj

its all lip service time for special prosecutor or impeach holder.. http://www.pointoforder.com/2014/05/08/is-the-u-s-attorney-required-to-present-the-lois-lerner-contempt-to-the-grand-jury/
