The UK piece has many elements of propaganda in it, attributing emotions to the rebels instead of just reporting the facts. I don’t trust the British press myself. Beware of propaganda. (Not saying this is not a tragedy, my prayers to the families who lost loved ones.)
When they say "rebels", are they talking about Ukrainians who are fighting Russians or are they talking about Russians fighting Ukrainians?

Actually, more people have died from the border crisis than on a plane in Ukraine. THIS is our homeland and it is being invaded. Ukraine is not the top priority at the moment in my mind. If we don’t stop what is happening here, nothing else will matter much. Now, because of this, the invasion will carry on with no attention focused on it.
