Bowe Bergdahl thanks Obama for 'saving his life'; still won't speak to parents

Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl has finally broken his silence, using his first statement since being released from the Taliban to thank President Barack Obama for his support.

"Sergeant Bergdahl is deeply grateful to President Obama for saving his life," said Bergdahl's new attorney Eugene Fidell. In an interview with The Daily Beast, Fidell said the former prisoner of war had authorized him to make that statement on his behalf.

The exchange of Bergdahl for five Taliban prisoners in U.S. custody has been controversial in part because several members of the Bergdahl's former unit have called him a deserter. They say he walked away voluntarily.

Why wouldn’t you talk to your parents, no matter how horrible they are? After all, they’re your parents — honor they father and mother and all that...

He hasn't been promoted to Sergeant Major of the Army yet? What's the hold up?

Maybe he is upset with his parents for getting him away from his beloved Taliban — maybe he was never really a prisoner. He did leave his post to find them and join them. He was most likely a willing participant in the Taliban’s propaganda war and was quite happy there.

His parents kept working all angles to bring him back to the US and he deeply resents it.

I believe he washed out of the Coast Guard, felt compelled to work to get into an elite unit. Who knows what familial breakdown led to his bizarre behavior. I saw people for 10 years who were absolutely nuts. A mother who tried to drown her son in the toilet because he would no longer fondle her in the bathtub, for example. A son whose mother was too drunk to notice that the older brother was using the family dog to rape his little brother. I know other cases even worse but will not mention them as the victims are still alive, amazingly.

And to think they were going to give this douche a hero’s parade in his hometown.

Just because you can’t pick your parents doesn’t mean you’re forced into accepting some eternal lock to them. Especially considering how genuinely evil some parents are.

Say child abusers/pedos for example.

Those pitiful children you spoke of may be able to put this behind them, but they will always wrestle with being marked by the Scarlet Letter of B, for betrayal.

You bet.

He expected to come home to a faring squad, or at least life in Leavenworth only to find out Obama is trying to make a hero out of him.

He has a lot on the line and needs to stay on message. He has no doubt been coached by his handlers that his parents are total loose cannons who have already burned Obama once. He better not let that happen again.

Just a hypothetical here, but try this one on.

Suppose that “Poor Bowe” deserted because he believed his old man’s propaganda. He went off as an idyllic “True Believer” and found in the Taliban the primitive savagery that we all know resides in the Moslem Heart of Darkness.

Now he’s between a rock and a hard place. He knows the vision of the Holy Warrior of Islam is empty, but he’s also quite aware that he has deserted and by rights should face a firing squad (for which I would readily volunteer.)

Think of the inner resentment and hatred he holds for the father who led him so far astray.

I could buy that with no problem at all. Look how many of the helicopter/liberal/participation trophy/play-date parents destroy their kids daily in far lesser ways.

This could quickly spin out of control when one of the destroyed kids meets the real and brutal world of a military at war. Back here, screwed kid loses a job or gets his Facebook friends de-friending him. Over there, the results are a bit more ‘real’ and would cause one to reassess things because they cannot simply fall back on their self-reinforcing delusions.

Not that I think this ‘is’ what happened with the POS. Just that I could easily see it.

I’m not buying anything said from either Bergdahl or odumo.

Both of the ba$tards are traitors and should have been/be treated as such. We are at “war” no matter what anyone says and the penalty for desertion in time of war is WHAT????????
