Members of the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) attacked a Shiite mosque in Istanbul last week, a human rights association has claimed in report, refuting official statements about the incident.
On July 8, a fire caused significant material damage at the Muhammediye Mosque in the Esenyurt neighborhood of the city. Three Qurans and a 300-volume hadith collection were destroyed in the fire at the mosque, which belongs to the local community from the Ja’farite school of Shia Islam.
Turley’s Human Rights Association (İHD) prepared a report on the incident based on the testimonies of witnesses and official statements. The findings of the report were announced to the public on July 15 in a press conference at the İHD headquarters in Istanbul’s Beyoğlu neighborhood.
The report quoted Seçkin Çengeloğlu, a local police chief, who ruled out the possibility of arson. He described the fire as “a coincidence” that occurred during a burglary in which the clock of the mosque was stolen by a local drug user acting alone.
However, citing the testimonies of witnesses, including the imam of the mosque, İHD Istanbul head Abdulbaki Boğa said the report concluded that the fire was a “planned assault,” contradicting the official police statement.
Imam Hamza Aydın was quoted in the report as saying that an individual between the ages of 25 and 30 had visited the mosque with two teenagers 10 days before the fire, asking him which Islamic sect he belonged to. “You’re Shiite, you have no right to live, we will burn you,” the person reportedly told the imam after getting an answer.
The report concluded that ISIL was behind the fire, without presenting direct evidence linking the incident to the militant group.
“ISIL is in Istanbul now. We knew it, but this is their first attack against a belief group in Turkey,” claimed Hulusi Zeybel, a central executive board member of the İHD.
“The attack against Ja’faris is an attack with a political message,” Boğa added.
Nobody enjoys a good Islamic civil war more than I do. I think we should arm both sides to the teeth (see Iran/Iraq war) and sit back with a bucket of buttered popcorn and a nice dark ale.
The ISIS leader was being treated for injuries in Turkey. I suspect this is either a splinter group, a rogue group or a Machiavellian ruse by somebody trying to end Turkey’s support of ISIS. Also much of the weapons and logistics have, apparently, come across the Turkish border, which would be difficult without Turkey’s support. Something isn’t adding up about this situation.
Quran’s were burned???? I guess it’s okay - since a fellow Moslem did it...kinda certain members of society being able to use a certain word that if someone else used it - would be called a racist...
Isn’t neat how we all learn through acts of violence...uh....I mean peace....thanks Islam, for ruining the world!
Until they fight it out and their is a end conclusion to who’s going to be the leader - we need to be watchful - but not participate...they need to go through Balkanization....

Kemal Attaturk, Ronald Reagan, Ike and Winston Churchill are gone. It’d be bad enough if mediocrities were in their place, but instead we have midgets and pygmies who have a false sense of adequacy and even superiority in their place.
It didn’t take long for the vaacum in Iraq to get filled by the various players, (tribes) in the tale of woe. ISIS, ISIL, AL who knows how to spell it, Iran, Hamas, the Kurds, Shia, Sunni and Arabs in general.
Apparently ISIL is the power group that has managed to build in a very short period of time a coalition strong enough to capture back a goodly portion of Iraq and only lacks Baghdad to cement the deal.
Out on the fringe and controlling their part of Iraq would be the Kurds who don’t want to lose to ISIL or any other players unsympathetic to their cause. Unfortunately the real losers in this “deal” would be the poor folks who worked for or showed any sympathy for the west during OUR stay in Iraq. We very stupidly abandoned the region and what freedom lovers there were, and now all hell is breaking loose.
See yesterday’s shootdown of an airliner over Ukraine for some of the possible negative side-effects of arming all sides to the teeth.
That was a Russian SAM, almost certainly fired by a Russian either in the Russian Army, GRU or the employ of the Russian state, not an outside actor.
Or, arguably, we stupidly went in, invited a bunch of the locals to be our friends, and then abandoned them to their fate. Why any of them believed us, given our past dishonorable track record in this regard, is beyond me.
America does not want to be, and has no intention of becoming, a true empire. If we were never going to truly colonize Iraq, we would be leaving eventually.
Since it is truly ludicrous and megalomaniac for us to think our intervention lasting a decade or two will make any real difference in attitudes and animosities going back well over a thousand years, at some point we’d be leaving “our friends” to their fate. Only question was when.
Or, the Russians may have given control over such missiles to local separatists, a not dissimilar situation to us (or the Russians) giving missiles to ISIS or the Iraqi government.
At this point in time, giving military equipment to the Iraqis may be the functional equivalent of a delayed gift to ISIS.
I propose we call them SHIT....Shia Hating Islamic Terrorists
WWII was a far better way of building or rebuilding what was destroyed in the conflict, and we were invested so we stayed. But first and foremost the conflict MUST be won, and the will of the people changed as it was for the Japanese and German’s.
Every rule of war was obediantly disobeyed, and the poor Iraqies will suffer more death and destruction before it is all over, if it ever is.
Keep your eyes on ISIL, they are the power broker of the moment.
