There are many compelling reasons to engage in genealogical and family history research, whether for personal curiosity or for establishing one's legal status and rights. One useful resource in such research is the United States Census. The decennial enumerations of each household are embargoed for 72 years, and their release to the public is invariably greeted with avid popularity.
Interesting census information from the past has included place of birth, occupation, naturalization status and date for immigrants, and native language. But now, the census is about to get a little more interesting.
In order to design more efficient procedures for the upcoming 2020 census, the Department of Commerce wants to mine some data from our Form 1040 Income Tax returns and related documents. Specifically, the Census people over in the Commerce Department desire, among other things, names and Taxpayer Identification Numbers of mortgage interest payers and payees.
The Internal Revenue Service has accordingly proposed a regulation to facilitate the request from Commerce; meanwhile, it is operating under a verbatim temporary regulation to accommodate the Census Bureau's request.
Quite frankly, there are some sound arguments for using such information to "design a decennial census that costs less per housing unit and still maintains high quality results." But such activity does not occur in a vacuum. IRS personnel have recklessly if not intentionally misappropriated what should be confidential personal information that was entrusted to the agency by the public, misusing the information not only to further a political agenda, but also, on more than one occasion, for larcenous personal gain.

For really up-to-date information on American households, our government Masters turn to the NSA.

THE KINGPINS OF CHICAGO CRIMINAL POLITICS IN OUR WH wasted no time.....they had a stranglehold on the Census (AND US Treasury) from day one.
The minute Obama/Valerie/Rahm/Axelrod/Geithner, and that diseased bunch of criminals, landed in the WH they did two things that were apparently crucial to their evil plans
(a) they took control of the US Census;
(b) Obama placed his COS Rahm Emanuel in control of the US Dept of the Treasury (the IRS).
THE SMOKING GUN---WSJ REPORT--On Jan 20, 2009 Timothy Geithner was appointed Obama's Secy of the Treasury. But within three weeks, the Obama White House tightened its grip on Treasury. Obama put his COS, Rahm Emanuel, in charge of Treasury---Rahm Emanuel's dual role was an unusual move.
When he got to Treasury, WH COS Rahm Emanuel was so involved in the inner workings of the Treasury that the phrase "Rahm wants it" had become an unofficial mantra among subservient govt staffers, prostrate in obeisance, scurrying to accede to Rahm's wishes, according to Treasury government officials. The connection between the IRS targeting and the WH's malevolent parasites at Treasury becomes clearer.
THIS MADE ME LAUGH OUT LOUD shortly after quitting his powerful WH job as Obama's COS, Rahm held a presser declaring he "just remembered" he really, Really wanted to be Mayor of Chicago. Then Rahm announced he had magically "raised" $10 million for his campaign in "just a matter of weeks." (waiting for hysterical laughter to die down). Ya gotta wonder how much Wall Street Rahm wired offshore when Obama put him in charge of the entire US Treasury.
Currently, the only form released by the Census Bureau is the basic form filled out by the census enumerator. Of course, that was the only form used in 1940, the last census to be made available. The question is, what is going to happen when we get to the era of long form questionnaires and the mail in form that has been used in more recent decades? The 1940 form shows all the families in the neighborhood with basic information about each. It’s a piece of paper that has been digitized. In the future they are going to have to release a database that may contain information that should not be in the public domain.
He's a Muslim, Jim... er, Dio. Occam's razor, simplest explanation.
They also share with USDA.
In fact, I don’t think there are many they don’t share with.
Oh yay! now they want to link how many people live in your great big McMansion to your tax ID! Gee...whatever could they want that information link for? Oh yeah...Agenda 21 housing information
I’d be ok with the release from the IRS to the Census for research purposes after 75 years AND decease of the person, provided all dependents are redacted. Other than that I have issues.
The government knows everything it wants to know about you, inside and out, in seventy-five seconds, thanks to the NSA.
