Gov. Rick Perry Says Texas May Soon Take Steps to Secure the Border — With or Without the Feds
TheBlaze ^ | 7/17/2014 | Erica Ritz

Texas Governor Rick Perry (R) has been begging the federal government for years to secure America’s southern border. Now, as America faces what some are calling an “invasion” of illegal aliens, Perry said the time may come that Texas is forced to secure its roughly 1,200 mile border with Mexico with or without the federal government’s help.

“We’ve been able to shut down illegal activities in certain sectors with our different operations that we’ve had,” Perry said on The Glenn Beck Program Thursday. “But I think there’s a point in time where you say, ‘You know what? This 1,200 mile border has to be secured.’ And if there is a people and if there is a place that it can happen, it will be Texas.”

Liz: ya crack me up. If Perry runs, let’s just use the Bette Davis line: “Fasten your seatbelts, it’s going to be a bumpy ride.”

If the militia people are on the border, could each county sheriff deputize them and make them law enforcement officers?...or is that just in Western movies?

LOL .....maybe more like "What we have here is a failure of communication."

Perry has been saying this for how long?

Just secede already. Then you can do whatever you want with the borders and tell the U.S. we’ll just send everyone back who hasn’t been there for the past five years.

I don’t think the president can simply take over the NG unless it’s to deal with an emergency. I don’t believe he can take them over to NOT deal with an emergency.

That's incorrect. Under Title 10 (U.S. Code), POTUS can nationalize the Texas National Guard in several ways and a state of emergency is not required in every case. Two examples are below. Note that each is exempt from Posse Comitatus.

N-i-c-e deconstruction.

This is Jarrett and Obama’s payback to the white man they’ve been hinting at for so long. It’s Cloward Piven to break our backs. Some of the black population is finally waking up to the fact that the man only looks black; he is not black and was never raised as one of them. And now they are finally starting to speak out against him.

Tsk, tsk, don't be too hard on Valerie. After all she's the one that
assured Americans as the Chicago criminal took over the WH:

I must say I had forgotten those hilarious photos you posted. I almost thought they were photoshopped but then remembered them from 2012.

We can find many movie quotes to follow this presidential candidacy.

I'm thinking of Terri Garr in “Tootsie” complaining about all the props she needs to buy when she goes on auditions: “And glasses! Look at these stupid glasses! I don't even wear glasses!”

Perry, what in the heck are you waiting for. Most of us have been saying that for years. That is what the National Guard is for, your use to protect your citizens in the case of invasion.

Well said Arm_Bears,

“Talk is cheap, Rick. Quit jawing and do it.(Not that you haven’t had the opportunity prior to this.)”

I wonder how much of an influence Dan Patrick winning the Republican nomination for Lt. Governor, had on this decision? He made closing the border, with or without FED help a major pillar of his campaign.

.....where is the existing force to punish him? Can he not, at the head of his army, beat down every opposition?...

No problema....all we have to do is change the locks in the WH....he'll never figure that one out.

The FIRST THING Perry might consider doing is REVERSING his position on supporting virtually EVERYTHING that illegals want, such as in-state tuition, for starters.

It’s tough here in Texas to take him seriously on this issue.

He has already sent the Texas Rangers, Texas State Troopers, and some Texas National Guard troops. We’re spending $1.5 million per week on that effort over and above our $332 million biennial (2014-2015) budget for border security.

It was a statement in answer to a direct question from Glenn Beck. It was not an official announcement of his plan.

To your point though, it was a heads-up but of the form you suggest. Perry has been asking Obama to send the Texas National Guard under Title 32. He’s telling Obama that Texas is putting the legal pieces in place and prioritizing/planning border operations to send the Texas National Guard under state authority to secure the Texas border.

Governor, The feds are in charge of the border. YOU are responsible for securing all property located in Texas beginning at a point located one inch north of the Mexican border. Let the feds do what the feds will do at that line and you do what you need to in ALL the rest of Texas, up to the border.

In other words, don't whine about what the feds are NOT doing, show us what you ARE doing.....

“Soon” may be too late, and Abbott is as quiet as a mouse on this too.

The only person who takes Perry seriously is Perry himself!

Please do not hijack the thread. Criticize Perry to your heart’s content, but please be respectful and do so regarding the thread topic, which is border security.
