Opening the Eastern Seaboard to offshore oil exploration for the first time in decades, the Obama administration on Friday approved the use of sonic cannons to discover deposits under the ocean floor by shooting sound waves 100 times louder than a jet engine through waters shared by endangered whales and turtles.
The U.S. Bureau of Ocean Energy Management's approval of this technology is the first step toward identifying new oil and gas deposits in federal waters from Florida to Delaware

His game plan will be uselessly low sound pressure intensities pending an environmental survey that will never be completed. /S
Never trust an Obama bearing gifts
That will just thrill the Environmentals.</sarc
0bama hates whales. They remind him of his wife.
oil sands = tar sands
seismic surveys = sonic cannons
You have been warned.
Obama hates mermaids
This is meaningless posturing for 2014. Expect more lies and deceit.
Soros must have bought up all the oil leases which Obama rendered worthless through regulation.
I don’t remember how to post photos but if I did I’d post the one where Lucy pulls the football away from Charlie Brown right before he tries to kick it.
“There are never any well-meaning,positive aspects for the US regarding anything Obama does, decides up. Can anyone think of a reason why Obama would approve reopening oil exploration on the US Eastern Shore?”
It’s federal land. Obama is going to give the leases to crony’s then extort money from them.
For drama and fund raising, the enviros dub them "sonic cannons".
A new promising technique, "marine vibroseis" is showing promise, in shallower waters initially. Land vibroseis has long been successfully used. It is highly directional and limited to a low, specific frequency. IOW, it emits much less 'noise' that can harm sea mammals. The current very expensive workaround is a set of solutions that essentially avoids sea mammals.
For a sense of proportion, a seismic survey of an area might cost $5 million and a well $50 million. But you don't know what you've got until you do a survey. As in the Carolinas, for general economic development reasons, seismic surveys are often a government backed, sponsored or even funded activity. Anything to please the enviros on seismics is money well spent.
Because the next President will be for oil exploration and he does not want to look like the fool he is, for curtailing oil exploration!
Does Harry Reid have a realtive in the industry?
I hope the Koch brothers are the big winners in this.
Is this something Bush or Clinton would not allow but zero will?
That is all we have to know.
