[Gov't Motors] GM says it has no fix yet for some recalled Cadillacs with switch issues

General Motors Co has ordered Cadillac dealers to stop selling some versions of the CTS model-range because the automaker does not have a fix yet for cars recalled in late June over an issue where engines can be shut off if the driver's knee bumps the ignition key, the company said on Saturday.

Details of incidents leading up to the June 30 recall, including three occasions where GM employees bumped the keys and shut off the engines in 2012 CTSs, were made public on Saturday by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, which oversees safety recalls.

The so-called stop sale order to Cadillac dealers on the 2003-2014 CTS and 2004-2006 SRX was issued July 2 and updated July 8, according to GM documents posted by NHTSA. The recall involved about 554,000 Cadillacs in the United States.

The order "is still in effect for the foreseeable future," GM spokesman Alan Adler said on Saturday. GM engineers are "looking at one common solution" for all the recalled Cadillacs, "but they don't have it yet," Adler said.

I love America but I don't trust American cars, since Detroit got fat and lazy in the 70's, unions took over, and later the feds.

If I can still find them, I'll go with well-designed, well-manufactured foreign cars produced without all the BS.

Wife had a 2008 Jeep Grand Cherokee that shut off on me 6 times while I was driving on the interstate in heavy traffic.

No knee bump or any cover-up story like that. Just shut off.

The only thing you could do was put the car in neutral, restart the car, then put it in drive. This was as I was still going about 80 MPH.

It’s not like an ignition is some new concept.

GM sucks and has for a long time.

Clarification: shut off 6 times over a period of 2 years.

Jeep Mechanics could never find any problems. Or so they said.

I had a similar problem with a Dodge. I was going to junk the car as nobody could find the problem. I mentioned it in a parts store and the owner said, “look at the wire bundle coming out of the steering column. You’ll find a burnt wire where it touches the sharp edge. Fix the wire and tape it so it won’t get cut again.” I did and then I bought him a case of beer. Drove the car three more years.

You’re probably looking for an intermittent in an electrical harness. Or, in this case it could be a bad ECU. Visual search all the wires especially where they cross over sharp points.

Funny how all of GM’s recalls lay dormant until the government unloaded it’s’ stock to private investors. Looks like the stockholders get to pay twice to support unions. I toyed with the idea of buying a new Corvette, but not now. GM has proven itself untrustworthy, even when given a second chance.

We just got our recall for Saturn Aura, which we traded in on our first foreign car in our lives two months ago-A Kia Optima. We’ll never buy an American car again.

I think that GM has recalled more cars than it has sold since Obama bought them out.

” I love America but I don’t trust American cars, since Detroit got fat and lazy in the 70’s “

You are right about the 70’s . I ordered a 1973 Chevy early ‘73 . Took 16 weeks to get . Picked it up one summer evening . 5 minutes after driving it off the dealer’s lot the 4 speed shifter linkage locked up and caused the transmission to stay stuck in 2nd gear . Drove back to the dealer in 2nd ( SLOWly ) . No mechanics on duty so I had to leave the car for repair . I had to fight to get a loaner car from the dealer ! It was all downhill from there . Nothing but problems with that car . Got rid of it 6 months later . Never bought an American car again .

If this had been Toyota, Barry would be signing executive orders to put them out of business.

Should of let GM fail and get rid of their stinking unions.

Oh - Jeep has since admitted it’s a known problem. They’ve even given some people money. But don’t worry about that piece. I was hit by an ice cream truck in 2011 and it totaled it.

No. The airbags did not deploy.

GM sucks. Jeep sucks.

Which means they haven't found a cheap way to fix it.
