Thirteen soldiers were killed overnight when they encountered fierce resistance fighting in the dense urban environment of Gaza City, the IDF announced Sunday evening.
The central battle began when an anti-tank missile fired from within a Gaza building struck an Israeli armored personnel carrier, killing seven soldiers from the 13th battalion of the Golani Brigade, the army said.
The ambush, supported by machine gun fire, took place in the Shejaiya neighborhood of Gaza City, in the northern part of the 40-kilometer-long Strip.
In the ensuing fighting, an unspecified number of soldiers were wounded, including Col. Ghassan Elian, the commander of the Golani Brigade, whose wound was deemed light to moderate.
The army did not immediately release for publication the names of the soldiers who were killed. The families were informed earlier on Sunday. At least two of the Israeli soldiers killed were dual US-Israel nationals, according to IDF officials. All the 13 fatalities were from the Golani Brigade, the army said.

Israel makes a distinction between killing Hamas and any other Islamic terrorist operatives, versus killing Palestinian civilians. In fact the IDF even posts videos showing where they stop an action based on seeing a Palestinian civilian who got in the way. Israel ADVERTISES to the entire world that they should NOT BELIEVE THE LIES that Hamas propagates that the IDF indiscriminately kills Palestinian civilians and doesn’t care about them.
Israel doesn’t commit war crimes, despite the lies that Hamas says (in that Israel does).

Give me a break! The people of Gaza elected and re-elected terrorists to lead them. They are all terrorists.
Israel would consider it to be so, and others would consider it to be so. All you have to do is listen to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and you’ll see he argues VERY STRONGLY about how “MORAL” the IDF is, as an army, and rightfully so. Netanyahu uses EXAMPLES of what Israel does to avoid collateral damage to Palestinian civilians and so does the IDF too - to COUNTERACTS THE LIES that Israel indiscriminately allows Palestinian civilians to be killed.
Anyone who PROMOTES the exact same thing that Hamas says that Israel is doing, is helping Hamas in their propaganda lies against Israel.
You better talk to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, all the Israeli Ambassadors around the world in other countries and to the IDF and it’s generals - because they ALL very strongly argue AGAINST THE PROPAGANDA LIES that Israel does target or even should target Palestinian civilians.
You’re talking to the wrong person here ... you’ll have to talk to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, all the Israeli Ambassadors around the world, the IDF and its general and officers, because THEY are the ones you have an argument with.

You can promote that mush-headed nonsense until the cows come home and lace it with implied insults based on straw men but it doesn’t change the fact that they are all terrorists.
That’s not true — Israel engages in needed urban renewal all the time.
The only reason they don’t do it here is that most of the insurgents and missiles are underground.
But when my soldiers are dying in door to door fighting, then prudence says LEVEL IT and bury the rats.
There’s a difference between leveling Gaza (as you said) versus, going into a neighborhood, where the IDF has identified to the Palestinian civilians and told them to move out of that neighborhood for their safety.
The goal here, for the IDF, as said by Prime Minister Benjamin over the last few days is for the IDF to find the tunnels and then to thoroughly destroy them. That’s what they are doing right now in their operation.
And it doesn’t change the fact that Israel rejects LIES like that which are leveled upon Israel.
I’ll go with what Israel says - and DOES - and not with the lies that Hamas promotes.
What lies are you talking about?
It has already been done for all of northern Gaza — they sent leaflets around in northern Gaza and told everyone to get out for their own safety. Northern Gaza is a ghost town right now except for tunnel rats.
And that’s fine, as Israel did give warning for the Palestinian civilians to leave for their safety. However, that’s not “leveling Gaza” ... :-) ...
The lies that Israel targets ALL PEOPLE in these areas, and that Israel does not care or take measures to avoid Palestinian civilian casualties, and that Israel treats EVERYONE there as terrorists. Those are the lies that Israel refutes and refutes very strongly.
