McCaul: Putin responsible for downed flight

The chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee says Russian President Vladimir Putin bears direct responsibility for the downing of the passenger jet over eastern Ukraine last week.

“I think Putin is responsible and complicit for what happened,” Rep. Michael T. McCaul, Texas Republican, said on CNN’s “State of the Union.” “I believe that we are — Mr. Putin is — returning to a Cold War mentality.”

“We’re seeing that happen with Crimea being annexed, we’re seeing that happen with the Russian-speaking peoples in Ukraine and all throughout the Baltic states now where I think his long-term strategy is to bring back into the fold, if you will, the glory days of the empire, these Baltic nations with the Russian-speaking people,” he continued.

Well, McCaul, maybe you guys in the House need to hold a tighter rein on the purse strings so that the Clown uses the taxpayer’s money to defend our interests in a more appropriate way.

I’m somewhat perplexed that McCaul knows more about the Ukraine than our southern border.

It's your own ignorance which should concern you most.

McCaul speaks on border crossings by children

McCaul doesn't know about our southern border?

Really?

Explain why you think that?

It’s just a way to smear people who actually take the threat posed by our Russian enemies seriously.

Maybe Putin should blame his predecessors just like Obama does.

In light of the recent Malaysia Airlines tragedies (one missing, one brought down by the Russians) I completed a project I began some time ago to remind us of an earlier Russian involved murder of hundreds of innocents. Will someone please remind obozo that it’s still a jungle out there!

Homeland Security??? Now there’s an opinion I respect /s/...Apparently the guy who flew a plane thru a war zone has zero responsibility for the tragedy...

Not only the pilot but the airlines that routed the flight through the middle of a war zone and the passengers who knowingly boarded a flight that would take them across dangerous skies. And then there’s the guy who thought it was a cargo plane that he’d just shot down. Putin has some blame but there are several who have more blame.

This is much like blaming the US citizens for the influx of illegal aliens. Because, ya know, if we had more open border laws then the poor widdle children wouldn’t have to walk thousands of miles through the scorching desert and hiding out from sexual predetors, drug cartels, child slavery and a various assortment of bad guys, rattlesnakes, moutain lions, starvation and dehydration.

And Obama is responsible for the thousands of Christians being murdered as a result of his Arab Spring initiative.

The difference is the passengers on the plane weren’t deliberately targeted but the Christians are.

McCaul should have known about the expected flood of "children" back in January but said nothing until recently, but this is part of his job.

Yet he is quick to comment about international affairs which he has no official business commenting on.

Here's an article from last year about McCaul's opposition to amnesty: Rep. McCaul Says No to Amnesty Conference - October 31, 2013 - "I am not pushing for immigration reform, I’ve been against amnesty my entire career. I’m simply interested in getting the security piece done. And we have to do that, first and foremost."

Why don't you just admit they you were wrong?

You tried to present a false dichotomy that those who believe in a strong foreign policy are weak when it comes to defending our own border. You're wrong and your logic is faulty.

1. If Rep. McCaul is so adamant about securing the boreder, why doesn't he clearly state this on his own official website (http://mccaul.house.gov)?

2. Rep. McCaul has been fairly quiet about the border when appearing on mainstream media, ie cable news. Can you site an instance when he complained about the border on Fox News Sunday, etc?

Rep. Mike McCaul: Halt Flow of Illegal Immigrants to Protect Kids - July 10, 2014 - McCaul told Fox News' "Happening Now" that many of the children who are making the trek from Central America unaccompanied by parents are being raped, abused, and killed at the hands of the drug cartels.

McCaul, who chairs the House Committee on Homeland Security, said the only way to protect the children would be to "stop the flow" of immigrants coming to the United States, which would send a "message of deterrence." "We need to send the family units and children back to their countries," he said.

"About 80 percent, though, of these so-called children are about 16 to 17 years old, most male. That, from a security standpoint, greatly concerns me," he said.

McCaul questioned why Obama did not visit the border while in Texas this week on a fund-raising trip. He said it didn't show "leadership" for the president to say he would get his information from his "underlings."

Texas rep says military bases ‘turning into refugee camps,’ appeals for help on border - July 3, 2014 - "Our military bases are turning into refugee camps. I never thought I'd see this in the United States of America," House Homeland Security Committee Chairman Michael McCaul, R-Texas, said.

McCaul said the primary factor is a series of executive actions the administration has taken easing deportation policies, especially for young illegal immigrants. He warned that Obama's recent vow to take more executive actions "could cause it to be worse."

McCaul: Obama Policies Telling Migrants, 'If You Come, You Can Stay' - July 5, 2014 - "The Administration must first recognize its failed immigration and border policies are the source of the problem," McCaul said.

McCaul said that "a relaxed enforcement posture – along with talk of comprehensive immigration reform" will lead to more illegal immigrants crossing the border. He continued, "The message these policies are sending is 'if you come, you can stay.' This makes its way back to Central America, and more children are put in the arms of the cartels. In fact, newspapers there seem to be encouraging illegal immigration based on these policies. And recent internal DHS surveys of these children reveal that more than 70% believe they are going to remain here."

McCaul said, "While these kids and families are given 'notices to appear,' the reality is that it will take years to work through the immigration system. To break this cycle we need to add in some real deterrence – first, mandatory detention and then we should explore ways to promptly return those who come here illegally."

Mike McCaul On Immigration Bill: 'Bunch Of Candy' Thrown At Border - July 7, 2013 - Speaking on CBS' "Face The Nation," McCaul said, "What the Senate just passed was, again, a bunch of, you know, candy thrown down there, a bunch of assets thrown down there to gain votes, but without a methodical, smart border approach."

Rep. McCaul: Release of Illegal Aliens Shows 'Weak Stance on National Security' - February 28, 2013 - Rep. Michael McCaul (R-Texas), chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, has a few questions for Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Director John Morton: How many illegal aliens did you release from U.S. detention centers? Why were those individuals being detained in the first place? And how do you intend to monitor and track them now that they're free?

In a letter to Morton on Wednesday, McCaul said he was "concerned" to learn that ICE -- using the looming sequester as an excuse -- had released a "large number of detained persons."

"This decision reflects the lack of resource prioritization within the Department of Homeland Security and Immigration and Customs Enforcement and is indicative of the Department’s weak stance on national security," McCaul wrote.

McCaul noted that Congress "mandated and provided resources' to maintain 34,000 beds for illegal immigrant detainees, but as of last week, only 30,773 spaces were filled -- "in clear violation of statute."

McCaul Calls Obama Dream Act Move ‘An Insult to Our Representative Democracy’ - June 18, 2012 - “The Obama administration unilaterally, without consulting the Congress, implemented changes to America’s border security and immigration policy, mandating that our federal law enforcement officers break United States immigration laws at their own discretion,” McCaul said. “Our immigration laws should be fully enforced and any change to our laws should emanate from the legislative branch of government. It is an insult to our representative democracy that this administration continues to make policy when it does not get what it wants from Congress.”

New Homeland Security rules allow illegal immigrants with no criminal record to stay in U.S., apply for work permit - August 19, 2011 - "It is just the latest attempt by this president to bypass the intended legislative process when he does not get his way," McCaul said. "The fact that we have a backlog and prioritize deportations is nothing new. This policy goes a step further granting illegal immigrants a fast-track to gaining a work permit where they will now unfairly compete with more than 9 percent of Americans who are still looking for jobs."

Congressional Hearing Examines Illegal Immigration - August 17, 2006 - "We’re trying to open America’s eyes to the violence and overall negative consequences which come with an uncontrolled border," stated Congressman Michael McCaul who chaired the hearing. He went on to say, "We are a nation of immigrants, but we are also a nation of laws. Those who break our laws should not be rewarded."

I think you (Tailgunner Joe) ought to work as McCaul's press Secretary since you seem to know much more about his position on the border than his staff does.

McCaul is my congress critter and you have sited more about this than his website, twitter, Facebook, and e-mailers combined.
