Back in college I remember a professor telling us, if you ever want to know if the Bible is true - just look at Israel. By all normal rights they should have ceased to exist centuries ago - they should have just been absorbed into their many captors.
They are still here, God is still on the throne . . . He is in control, and He is about to put a major hurting on the heads of Israel’s enemies (after He punishes them back to realizing that He is the God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob).
The lesson that God was teaching the Hebrews through the food laws was the bigger picture of religious separation - this is why they could eat some things, but not others, even though they were harmless - and why they could not mix fabrics in their textiles.
They were taught to separate themselves from the Gentiles - that is, thankfully, one lesson that they learned, and the reason that they still exist today.
You might wish to do a study on God’s word pictures in the Old Testament - you’ll be amazed!
