Ukrainian Su-25 fighter detected in close approach to MH17 before crash - Moscow

“A Ukraine Air Force military jet was detected gaining height, it’s distance from the Malaysian Boeing was 3 to 5km,” said the head of the Main Operations Directorate of the HQ of Russia’s military forces, Lieutenant-General Andrey Kartopolov speaking at a media conference in Moscow on Monday.

“[We] would like to get an explanation as to why the military jet was flying along a civil aviation corridor at almost the same time and at the same level as a passenger plane,” he stated.

The presence of the Ukrainian military jet can be confirmed by video shots made by the Rostov monitoring center, Kartopolov stated.

At the moment of the MH17 crash an American satellite was flying over the area of eastern Ukraine, according to Russia’s Defense Ministry. It urged the US to publish the space photos and data captured by it. ‘Ukrainian Buk missile system transported to militia-held area’

In addition, MH17 crashed within the operating zone of the Ukrainian army’s self-propelled, medium-range surface-to-air ‘Buk’ missile systems, the Russian general said.

“We have space images of certain places where the Ukraine’s air defense was located in the southeast of the country,” Kartapolov noted.

The first three shots that were shown by the general are dated July 14. The images show Buk missile launch systems in about 8km northwest of the city of Lugansk – a TELAR and two TELs, according to the military official. Another image shows a radar station near Donetsk.

Russia forgets the internet is forever.

The Russians (er, “rebels”) in Crimea bragged about their shot in real time on Twitter, etc.

Only to find out it wasn’t the cargo plane they thought it was.

Russia forgets the internet is forever.

Russia doesn't care that the internet is forever. And if anyone gets spunky on the web, Russia shuts them down. The LIVs in Russia are beyond hope . . . it's not even clear that they realize what is happening to them.

I thought the civilian jet was supposed to be hundreds of miles off course and not in a normal pattern, including flying lower than usual. The Ukranian jet was there to check things out, da?

ROFL - this is why they were trying to change wikipedia entries and such yesterday to give the Su-25 the capability to do what they wanted to claim.

Throw multiple globs of feces at the wall and one will possibly stick.

It does appear that Russia will ride this horse, as it (also) appears to be the best in the stable. Some of the other Russian propaganda responses were just laughable.

In light of the recent Malaysia Airlines tragedies (one missing, one brought down by the Russians) I completed a project I began some time ago to remind us of an earlier Russian involved murder of hundreds of innocents. Will someone please remind obozo that it’s still a jungle out there!

So the Russians are admitting they (or their proxies) took MH17 down?

They are admitting that they took down the wrong plane?

It’s a bit surprising how much they know today about this other jet, but knew nothing about MH17, and where the missile came from that took it down.

They know exactly what happened and are obfuscating with barely connected details.

This has clearly been a very difficult week or so for FR’s resident FoP (fans of Putin).

And I thought it was rogue elements of Bush supporters in the CIA that took out MH17.

If the rebel forces fired a missile at a passenger plane, that is a gross mistake.

But if they fired a missile at a Ukrainian SU-25, missed, and the missile re-targeted itself onto the passenger plane, it is a somewhat less egregious mistake and something more easily done by an inexperienced launch crew.

A good analysis regarding the nonsense coming out of Moscow as it tries to avoid responsibility for murdering nearly 300 people on MH17 is:

The Fog of war—the plane shouldn’t have been there in the first place. Now its just a propaganda prop—used by both sides.

The SU-25 can’t fly at 33k feet.

Two things.
First, air defense missiles don’t work that way.
Second, it is much more probable that the launch crew was Russian air defense, not some unskilled bunch of rubes.
