7:41 P.M. The FAA prohibits all U.S. airlines from flying to and from Ben-Gurion International Airport "for a period of up to 24 hours."

5:57 P.M. Delta Airlines and U.S. Airways suspend flights to and from Israel on Tuesday. This follows a warning from the Federal Aviation Authority given after a rocket fell earlier Tuesday in Yehud, near Ben-Gurion International Airport. United Airlines announced it will continue operating as usual.

A Delta Airlines flight from New York to Israel landed in Paris following the decision. U.S. Air has relocated planes currently at Ben-Gurion airport tonight's planned flight has been canceled. (Zohar Blumenkrantz)

I’ve got a question here. Where did you get the idea that the FAA cannot forbid US planes from flying in this area. Do you think that the FAA does not have the legal authority to do so?

Not El Al..since El Al is run by the Israeli Govt if you need to travel to Israel its the ONLY way to fly

Went to Israel last yr via El Al..great airline..15 hour flight(Which I was not a fan of but what can ya do) but its bar none the safest airline I have EVER been on..you should see the security involved before you board and you get a police escort to the plane..that is why El Al is the only way we would ever fly to Israel..some like other airlines to Israel because its less expensive(And you make a stop in New York to refuel) but I like a straight flight, no stops, much easier and safer

The FAA issued a NOTAM for LLBG (Tel Aviv Ben Gurion). That is a Notice to Airman. No, the FAA does not “forbid” destinations.

It’s going excellently, as the EU just announced that they are calling for Hamas and all those terror groups to be disarmed - exactly what Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was asking for in the last several days.

Netanyahu is a diplomatic genius!

My airline has been flying into Tel Aviv for the past week, in spite of the Gaza war. They just suspended flights along with 2 other US Airlines. This is politics. I can promise you that El Al has not suspended flights.

It happens every day in the US. An airport has an issue and flights divert etc. That does not mean a suspension of service. The US airlines have suspended service indefinitely. That is pure politics. Even if El Al has diverted flights, that does not mean El Al is no longer flying to Tel Aviv.

Another quote, another article ...

The Federal Aviation Administration on Tuesday blocked all U.S. carriers from flying to Israel’s main airport for 24 hours. The ban comes after a rocket landed about a mile from Tel Aviv’s Ben Gurion International Airport, the FAA said.

It means they’re not flying while rockets can potentially hit them, and there’s evidence if a nearby strike. People still remember what happened in the Ukraine.
