Why Tony Dungy’s comments about Michael Sam aren’t really a surprise
Washington Post ^ | 7/22/14 | Cindy Boren

Michael Sam may not be a distraction this week at the St. Louis Rams training camp, but the same cannot be said about Tony Dungy.

The former coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Indianapolis Colts found himself drawing criticism for telling the Tampa Tribune that, if he were still coaching today, he wouldn’t have drafted Sam “(n)ot because I don’t believe Michael Sam should have a chance to play, but I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it.

Of course Sam the man would be a distraction. This is how homos roll, especially when encouraged by the media. It's not so much about "breaking down barriers" it's all about *ATTRACTING ATTENTION TO THEMSELVES* LOOK AT ME I'M DIFFERENT, YOU SEE! I wonder how Black people feel when Jackie Robinson's accomplishments are inevitably compared to Sam's? The gay rights movement has a long history of "piggybacking" on the Civil Rights movement.

I’m sure lurking DU’ers, etc. will call me a hater, but I do wonder if Sam would have been drafted at all sans the hype about him being gay? Sam had a fine college career, but his ability to play at the NFL level is questionable. He lacks size, speed, and according to some scouting reports, the strength and toughness to play DE or OLB. Deacon Jones, this guy ain’t.

At the end of the day, either a guy can play at the pro level, or he can’t. I’m just not sure Sam can.

He’s a source of pride here in Jackson Michigan.

I've written off the NFL for this season (at least), and will not be watching any games, nor participating in fantasy football.

My reasons:?

1) Michael Sam, but then not Michael Sam, in and of himself. I could care less whether he's gay or not. My only question is whether or not he's capable of playing football at the appropriate level. BUT, when the NFL stepped in a squashed the Dolphins player who dared to tweet "Horrible" in response to Michael Sam's on-screen draft-day kiss, I said enough is enough. The NFL does not get to dictate the narrative, and "diversity" is appreciating all sides of the debate (or so I've been told).

2. The Redskins debacle -- The league allowing this nonsense to go on and failure to support Daniel Snyder in keeping the Redskins name is atrocious. Again, "diversity" is respecting all sides of the debate.

3. General thuggery -- Every offseason, we have to endure any number of players involved in all sorts of crimes, from the idiotic to the outright violent. And yet the league allows this nonsense to go on, and still promotes their "stars". Criminal acts seldom get more than a slap on the wrist by the league, and frankly, I'm just tired of it.

“I wouldn’t want to deal with all of it.”

Tony Dungy is a Superbowl winning coach and from what I am able to learn a good person.

If there is anyone honest on the Rams I would bet they regret drafting Sam and having to “deal with all of it.”

Sam brought his own camera crew to the Rams locker room and attracts unwanted media attention. The Rams must feel that drafting this super high maintenance player of marginal ability was a mistake.

However, it is a safe bet that none of them will ever say so on camera.

He knows where the money is. He also knows his chances of a solid NFL career are slim and none.

He will then cow an ESPN or Fox into making him a studio analyst despite his marginal-to-nonexistent career.

Who knew that getting sex completely and utterly wrong could be lucrative?

Sam doesn’t have the tools to play in the NFL. Neither did I though a scout told me I might if I converted to strong safety. He was wrong, I wasn’t quite fast enough and I knew it. Now do I hate myself for saying that? No, it is reality.

Seems to me that the idiotic reaction to Dungy’s statements is all the proof he needs to prove that he was correct. As expected, the perverts in the enemedia circle the wagons to protect the sodomite...

Noticed that Olberman is criticizing Dungy.

Is Olberman himself a member of some scientifically or socially recognized sex? Tough to tell, looking as he does like a hybrid cross of the Michelin Man out of Rosie O'Donnell.

The Rams did themselves no favors. Sam was a dud at the combine, and won’t be able to compete on the field. But now the Rams are going to catch hell if they cut him. Which is what normally happens to the 6th from the last player taken in the draft. He’s at best a practice squad guy. No practice squad guy merits his own media circus. It will wreck the team.

And that’s exactly why Dungy wouldn’t take him.

Just like you would stay away from Tebow and Johnny Football. Too much drama surrounding them. Who wants to answer questions and spend time discussing stuff that is not football related.

Not questioning any of their talents. Just their baggage.

The Rams want to move out of St Louis....I think the NFL basically went to them and told them if they wanted to get the move approved they’d better draft Sam.

Tony is one of the most wonderful Christian men in America. He was a friend to his players in need and showed Christ to the needy. It’s not surprising that a loser like Obermann would trash him!

He will be a target from day one. No offensive player will want to be known as the one who failed to block the queer.

The left will use a two pronged attack. First will be the race card to make unfair and outrageous claims. The second will be to take the radical LGBT agenda to the max.
Let it be known to Tony or anyone else who defies them the media will come down on you with a ton of bricks
Remember the lesser of two evils is “still evil”
I recall one coach saying he would not hire Tebow because it would be a distraction with the media circus. But that story kind of went by the wayside.
Unless you walk in lock step with the left you will be ostracized and criticized

There won’t be a team anywhere that’ll have the guts to cut this 7th round draft pick if he fails to play well. I’m sure he’s all lawyered up and ready to sue any team willing to cut him. I can’t believe this joker is getting anywhere near the attention he’s getting just because he’s a homosexual and proud of it.

I know what you’re saying, but I disagree. It’ll be obvious if this guy sucks. I love Tebow for the guy he was, but it was obvious that he sucked. If it’s obvious with Sam (he is slow and undersized) he’ll be cut and that will be the end of it. He may not even make the team. The Rams defense is pretty damn good to begin with.
