I was talking to some liberals a few weeks ago who assured me that it was LGBT. I asked why not GBLT. They said because that’s the name of a sandwich and it would be insulting to them to use it. So I have been, ever since.

But I call them Gay BLTs.

Because in the 80s, Gay was, you know, yuck.

Mrs WBill has a fair number of gay friends and acquaintences leftover from college. Most of them are older (now...along with the rest of us :-) ) so they're not militant, young, and angry. Their attitude is, roughly, "I'm gay. So what. If you don't like it, that's your problem." Frankly, I get along OK with most of them. We don't have much in common; I don't necessarily approve of their lifestyles, but they're not unpleasant to make small talk with for brief periods I see them at get-togethers. However.... There's a small subset of this group who I'd call "Flaming Drama Queen Attention Whores". Nothing is too outrageous. They proudly portray every negative gay stereotype that there is. I'm convinced, after hearing about them (and seeing them) for a number of years that their actions are a conscious decision.

That's pretty much my impression. Most of the political noise being made about the homosexual marriage issue is coming from a tiny minority from within a tiny minority, the remainder comes from non-homosexuals who are simply using the issue because they want to make themselves feel like the straight versions of the white "freedom riders" from the 60's (i.e. their lives don't feel fulfilled unless they can pretend to be martyrs or on the side of wannabe martyrs).
