U.S. discloses intelligence on downing of Malaysian jet
The Washington Post ^ | July 222, 2014 | Greg Miller

Posted on 07/23/2014 5:56:39 AM PDT by Uncle Chip

The Obama administration, detailing what it called evidence of Russian complicity in the downing of a Malaysian airliner, on Tuesday released satellite images and other sensitive intelligence that officials say show Moscow had trained and equipped rebels in Ukraine responsible for the attack.

Senior U.S. intelligence officials cited sensors that traced the path of the missile, shrapnel markings on the downed aircraft, voiceprint analysis of separatists claiming credit for the strike, and a flood of photos and other data from social-media sites.

The officials also for the first time identified a sprawling Russian military installation near the city of Rostov as the main conduit of Russian support to separatists in Ukraine....

The officials said that tanks, rocket launchers and other arms have continued to flow into Ukraine even after the downing of Malaysia Airlines Flight 17, which killed 298 civilians.....

“We are seeing a full-court press by the Russian government to instruct affiliated or friendly elements to manipulate the media environment to spread Russia’s version of the story,” the official said. “What this looks like again is a classic case of blaming the victims.”...

Images claim to show the movements of a surface-to-air missile launcher and build up of Russian military activity across the border.

U.S. officials said earlier that they had seen “indications” of advanced antiaircraft systems being moved into eastern Ukraine from Russia and being removed after the jet was shot down....

Still, the administration released information that had been kept secret until Tuesday, providing the most explicit illustration to date of the extent to which it has mobilized intelligence resources to track the conflict in Ukraine....

U.S. intelligence analysts have examined photos from the crash site and identified damage consistent with that caused by an SA-11 missile....

Do not put the words “Obama Administration” and “intelligence” in the same sentence.

“We are seeing a full-court press by the Russian government to instruct affiliated or friendly elements to manipulate the media environment to spread Russia’s version of the story,” “

There are several on FR. They’re easy to spot.

Washington Post? Have you ever read their comments section?

Polls have said people of US want no involvement in Ukraine.

Somebody wants a war with us in it.

Lets leave the fightin’ to us.

Obama could have gotten some interest in this if he wasn’t allowing an invasion of our sovereign territory. Nobody is helping the American people stop this.

Many of them are so surprising because they have hidden under the cover of freedom and conservatism and disdain for big government but they are now being exposed nothing more than Russian agents.

And along with them come a general assortment of useful idiots —

Only when truly characterizing the event -

“The Obama administration, detailing [evidence] released satellite images and other sensitive intelligence” to ensure our enemies understand our current capabilities and can find better ways to avoid detection of their atrocities.

There’s a reason why certain information is “sensitive intelligence” and should not be released. Unfortunately it’s not that the Obama Administration is simply stupid or foolish - they are actively working to do what they can to undermine our military and intelligence capabilities. In this case they have taken advantage of a tragic military action to let the world (and particularly communists) know how and what information we can gather. Did they have to release the information, a la Kennedy administration satellite photos of missiles going to Cuba? There’s enough out there to point the finger squarely at Russia, but this was an opportunity and we know they never let a crisis go to waste.

There is concern however, that as many as 95 victims - one third of the total number of passengers on board MH17 - may still be missing.

Dutch officials counted only 200 bodies on the morgue train on which rebels claim they placed 282 corpses and 87 body parts from a further 16 people.

The Dutch are such fools to have believed the Russian thugs of Donetsk, and they are supposed to be such diligent accountants.

They've been told for years that after shaking hands with a Russian, make sure to count your fingers afterwards.

I don't trust the administration at all, zero. When I read this what it tells me is that it took them until Tuesday to figure out what they wanted their message/position and "facts" on this to be, and then create the supporting "evidence."

>>>>>voiceprint analysis of separatists claiming credit for the strike, and a flood of photos and other data from social-media sites.<<<<<

Wow, NSA watch out, Facebook and Twitter are the most important players for data gathering.

The problem is, voiceprint has been debunked already as splice job.

No doubt, WH follows the KAL007 playbook, when Japanese voice intercept of Soviet conversation betwen command and the pilot was shortened from 9 to 4 minutes and spliced in order to serve as a "proof" to accuse USSR of deliberately shooting down an airliner. The truth came out when the Cold war ended.

There is a difference between 1983 and 2014 - WH has no monopoly on information, as was the case in 1983.

Is that the best they've got?

The better question is “Do you trust Putin more than Obama?
My answer is no, I do not trust either one.

I expect almost all US “intelligence personnel” are patriots and quite trustworthy as individuals. Unfortunately their work is filtered by in-house and White House politicians before any release to the public. From “slam dunk” proof of Saddam’s extensive WMD capabilities or “the video caused Benghazi”, you have seen the results.

In this case, I suspect the delay had several functions:
1) Vet to make sure nothing too sensitive is revealed.
2) Make the Russkies guess what we have.
3) Give the guilty party time to make claims that the evidence will show to be ridiculous.
4) Slow-walk the crisis so Obama can avoid decisions and taking real action, as is his wont.
