AUSTIN (KXAN) As the surge of unaccompanied minors into America continues, organizations around the country are doing what they can to help, including here in Austin.
On Tuesday, Austin Interfaith spoke at the Travis County Commissioners meeting. Representatives say that Austin is ideal to being a recipient of the children; it is a welcoming city and has the resources necessary to do so.
For Ofelia Zapata, the future of migrant children hits close to home. When you see on TV how the children are mistreated by officers these are babies.
Zapata is a member of Austin Interfaith and is on its strategy team. She sees the face of her own grandchild when she looks at the migrant children.
Children who really have no guidance, no understanding whats happening to them. Thats why my question is, why havent we done anything?
Austin Interfaith believes it is possible to have an organized, coordinated effort to receive a large number of unaccompanied minors. They say, this shouldnt be political.
We need to put that aside. These are babies, these are human beings, Zapata said.
The broad-based organization wants to follow Dallas lead, which has been proactive in committing resources to aid in the humanitarian response. The Austin Convention Center is one place they hope to shelter the children. The building was used to help thousands of evacuees after Hurricane Katrina.....
Austinites are pretty left of most Texans. Maybe they would welcome their new over (or under-) lords.
And threaten to cut off federal and state funding of the organization that takes illegals.
They are "left" when it comes to others taking care of them....But them in their back yard and they'll be to the "right" of Attila the Hun.
What??? Officers mistreating the children? I haven’t seen any indication of this anywhere. In fact, I’ve seen just the opposite.
Aside from that, this is happening everywhere and I don’t foresee it stopping. Especially in Texas. Very frustrating.
There are PLENTY of Austinites that won’t take this lying down.
#3 Bronze U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops, and/or, U.S. Catholic Charities $70,000,000+

Propaganda and information war.
When the Demonuts have One Party Rule ,Churches will be the First thing they will Outlaw . Cutting your own throat ?
I really hate a great many of my fellow Texans and Americans for what they are doing to this country.
Being paid $300-$1000 a day to care for these illegals, I can see why the group is enthusiastic about bring them in and caring for them
Great, glad to hear it.
My liberal niece and her husband are at UT, and they would, though.
Actually, they will outlaw Christianity and force people to endorse anti Christian policies such as abortion, gay rights , and general moral destruction.
Oh no, they won’t ban Churches......They’ll just create their own and preach a false gospel.
I like the idea of putting ALL of them in Austin.
I’d like a warehouse of them in The Woodlands, too, right next to my idiot relative’s house, because, as she so loudly declares, the State of Liberty says so.
Methinks that these groups want to traffic in young live-in servant’s or courtesan trainees who come with a $6K/month income stream.
