More than a week after convicted felon and former state Sen. Gary George was expected to disclose who is funding his longshot bid for Congress, he has still not done so.
Until George files the report, voters will not find out who, if anyone, is backing his longshot bid to unseat U.S. Rep. Gwen Moore, a Milwaukee Democrat.
In an abrupt phone interview Wednesday with the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, George declined to explain himself, telling a reporter he had no time to talk and would only take questions by email.
Ive got to go, George said.
By email, Georges campaign was more pointed.
This is what you want to right (sic) about? Seriously? Keep up the good work, you are so on top of political issues, an unidentified campaign representative wrote in response to a reporters questions.
Later Wednesday the campaign said by email that it has met all reporting requirements with the Federal Election Commission.
Like all federal candidates, George was required to file the campaign disclosure by July 15 with the FEC if he has raised more than $5,000. George wouldnt say whether he had raised more or less than that amount.
Last week, FEC officials said that they had no record of receiving Georges disclosure, though they allowed that it can take a few days to process candidate filings.
They likewise had no record of any campaign finance filing by Jeremy Ryan, a liberal protester from Madison who is running his own quixotic Republican primary campaign against U.S. Rep. Paul Ryan of Janesville.
Jeremy Ryan said he hadn't filed with the FEC because he hasn't raised more than $5,000 and is hoping he can win some votes without raising that nominal amount.
"I think it'll make more of a statement," he said.
