Cruz Meets With Conservatives to Discuss Border Crisis (Updated)

Updated 1:23 p.m. | Sen. Ted Cruz once again met with a group of the House’s most conservative lawmakers Wednesday morning to discuss potential legislative responses to the flood of children crossing the border.

Cruz met with “more than 20″ House Republicans Wednesday morning, according to Rep. Steve King, R-Iowa, to discuss a supplemental package meant to address the influx of unaccompanied minors at the border. “I didn’t have a hard count, but I know that it was more than 20,” King said.

According to the Iowa Republican, lawmakers had breakfast and listened to Cruz’s take on the crisis.

“The main agenda was to hear from Ted Cruz and his perspective on immigration,” King said. “And then many people around the table weighed in and we had an open discussion.”

King noted that lawmakers didn’t know the exact details of the package at the time — Republicans learned more about it in conference Wednesday morning. But, in general, lawmakers seem concerned that whatever the House sends over to the Senate will be amended to not include changes to a 2008 human trafficking law. Republicans want the law changed to expedite the deportation of children from Central American countries who are coming to the United States in droves.

“There’s an understanding that whatever might go to the Senate will come back to us, if it comes back at all, and we would describe it as ‘terrible,’ King said. “And so, again, there’s no one who has explained how you can start something in the House and get it to the president’s desk and think that you’ve improved the situation when you have a president that, and, I think, a Harry Reid in the Senate — they don’t even want to amend the 2008 bill. They’re for what that’s causing.”

Cruz is the new leader of the Conservative movement. He may not be getting much reinforcement in the Senate this November but he'll be getting more foot soldiers in the House as the elections recently in Maine, Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina have demonstrated (there are probably others).

Looks like they snapped that shot just as Cruz was saying “gentlemen, we’re screwed”.

When cruz drops his support for raising the H1-B visa quota, I may support him. Until then, he gets lumped in with the la raza Rick texas illegal labor trafficking crowd. Those 1000 NG troops are just window dressing, too little, too late, less than useless.

What do H1-B visas have to do with illegal immigration, may I ask?

“When cruz drops his support for raising the H1-B visa quota,”

Can you elaborate a little on this? My friend was seeking an H1B visa and she had just gotten her Master’s degree. I don’t understand this type of stuff.

OMG. Watching government snap into "action" is like watching paint dry.

Nice photo, by the way. With Washington looking down from the background..... old George'd puke if he knew what our government has become.

H1B Visa is well supported by the GOP-e as they think this is a way of getting $$$ donations from high tech companies.
It is supposed to allow a way of finding quality advance degree scientists to help high tech.
Many Phd process engineers were hired H1B for Intel.

In reality since 2000, it has been a back door to allowing companies to drop high priced workers and hire cheap overseas workers.

Many HP Sr workers have spent years training H1B’s only to discover they were training their replacements.

HP gets lower costs and the stock goes up.
Management gets big Option bonus and worker bees get the boot.

Very disappointing to see Sen. Cruz standing side by side with huckster Beck handing out stuffed animals to the illegal kids.

That's the depressing truth. I've been in Info Tech for 30+ years and what a change! Americans are a minority in most places. They're been replaced by armies of low-skilled / inexperienced Indian H1B's with and half-dozen fast-talking, inexperienced, totally biased H1B Indian hiring managers.

I think Boehner will try to shut Steve King up in 2015 by making him chairman of the Ag Committee.

http://thehill.com/blogs/floor-action/house/313839-king-to-boehner-clam-up-on-immigration-controversy

When Humphries interjected, “then he shouldn’t speak,” King agreed.

“That’s right, he should not. He should not speak.”
