Signs of donor fatigue at Obama's Bay Area fundraisers

LOS ALTOS HILLS -- President Obama hit the Bay Area for a fast cash-and-grab fundraising drive Wednesday, but there were signs that even in one of the nation's most reliable Democratic ATMs, donor fatigue is setting in.

There was no listed price for tickets for Obama's morning appearance at a roundtable in San Francisco for the House Majority PAC - the type of intimate gathering for which admission is usually $32,400 per person, the legal maximum. Some donors said tickets had been offered for a deep discount.

And in Los Altos Hills, the heart of Silicon Valley big money, the president's appearance at the home of real estate mogul George Marcus drew an older crowd that was noteworthy for the absence of 20-something angel investors, startup stars and tech leaders who have flocked to fundraisers Obama has held while paying 17 previous visits as president to the Bay Area.

Democratic donors who were invited to the San Francisco event, at the Four Seasons Hotel on Market Street, said they had initially been asked to donate as much as $25,000 to sit down with Obama. One who balked at the price said organizers had offered a cut-rate deal of as little as $5,000.

"Five-thousand dollars to sit down with the president for an hour? That's usually what it costs for a photo of you and your whole family" with Obama, said the invitee, who spoke on condition of anonymity.

Not a fundraiser

Organizers at the House Majority PAC said the event wasn't really a fundraiser.

Why? Just think, these people would probably pay $35 grand to be spat on by 0bama. To get to stand next to him, bask in his glory, and not get any spittle on you, that’s gotta be worth about $100K. These are cheap white crackers who need to give it up.

A letter I just wrote to the San Jose Murky Noos: (they won’t print it, of course)

Russia taking over Ukraine. Obama plays golf. Our country is being invaded
from the south. Obama can’t be bothered. Israel is fighting for its life.
Obama goes to a fundraiser. A US Marine is rotting in a Mexican jail.
Obama does nothing. The IRS and the EPA are running amok.
Obama goes on vacation. How much longer can this country abide
this incompetent, arrogant, ignorant, disconnected excuse for a chief
executive?

Is he raising money for somebody else? He’s a lame duck. Isn’t it a little illegal to “raise” money when you aren’t running for anything? I thought you couldn’t charge speaking fees until you were out of office.

Re; Beethoven; I cast my vote for The Emperor; a powerhouse of a piece meant to be heard at top volume and vibration.

On another note; I hear Hillary in also sniffing around here in the Bay Area, for dollars and attention. Can’t wait for them both to leave.

Who in their right mind would pay $25,000 or even $5000 to sit down with that lying phony. Desperate tech wanna be entrepreneurs paying to pretend to be important. The pictures of them with Obama that now hang on their office walls to impress people will be thrown in the trash within a few months.

When people donate money to a candidate, they do so knowing that that candidate will have the political capital to work for them and thus get a little return on their “investment.” That said, when that political capital diminishes severely, it then becomes a gambling matter. And yet people don’t like to throw their money away knowing that they are throwing their money away.

The President’s political capital is almost empty. Many who were disillusioned with him by 2012, yet gave him another chance, are pretty much gone now. Many of them have gone from giving him another chance to not caring at all about political matters.

The President is also facing a tough election year in that normally, should a president win a second term, the current usually goes against the party that holds the White House.

After getting news that the economy shrank another 2.9%, and hearing that Bill Gates is even laying off tens of thousands of workers, you know that the next 2 years are going to be rocky, especially if we have a re-run of what we had the first two years when Obama had a Democrat controlled, rubber stamp Congress.

I don’t know about your legal questions but who he’s raising $ for is terrified Dems. They think there’s going to be a wipeout in Nov., & they’re probably right. Obama realizes he’ll finally get blamed for something, so he’s fundraising as if his life depends on it. He’s catching flack even from liberals, however; fundraising to this extent while the world burns is a little too much even for his sycophants. He’s on the skids, & it’s not going to get any better for him any time soon.

Couple of my friends declined the sit down at George’s and in Hollywood.

I don’t think it’s so much as fatigue as it is his term ends soon.

Everyone was yippee skippee before his 2nd election but, they had their fun and it’s time to consider their next candidate.
