Exactly. Why go in to destroy some hornets and pull out later and leave the nest? It seems to be a cycle with Israel. Palis attack; Israel does some small retaliation; Palis attack again; Israel goes bigger; Palis surge; Israel goes in country as now. Then they will pull out again as they always do.

I am more cynical than that. While it may be true that they are not so keen on dying right now, but maybe they figure Israel might trade one hostage for 1,000 of them, so they have an ulterior motive.
Israeli patrols through Palestinian territory are routinely attacked by militants, mostly boys, throwing stones. They speed through and sometimes get hurt. They do not respond to the attacks as the intent is to force them to open fire. (Yes, that sounds insane, but it’s the life-has-no-value way the game is played.) If they are not willing to fire at the boys then they will take wearing damage every day. Firing will be videoed and used as evidence of Israeli brutality. In the total it will be a PR disaster.

Agree. Israel should just take back the Gaza Strip as part of Israel. It is a defensive move and their land anyway.
The UN and ‘world community’ would go nuts. The same people who haven’t done anything about Russia taking the Crimea from another country; a takeover that wasn’t defensive.

Unless the “exterminate” all of the Pali’s, there will never be peace in Gaza or in Israel. It has to be all or nothing for Israel, be damned world opinion. What would you do if you have a neighbor that constantly tried to kill you or your kids, assuming there was no law enforcement to stop them? Would YOU not fight back or just take it and die?
