According to the Border Patrol, the Arizona-Mexico border is the United States' most secure border.
Last year marked the first time in 22 years that more undocumented immigrants were detained at the Texas border than the Arizona border despite the influx of unaccompanied Central American children attempting to cross.
"Crossing in this area has diminished quite a lot in the past 10 years," Alejandro Martinez, Border Patrol chief in Douglas, Arizona, said.

The human trafficking has slowed, but the drug trafficking hasn’t. The article is misleading due to that simple fact.
It may be 115 and above right now in southern AZ, but that for the most part doesn’t deter the drug runners.

I was just down alng the Arizona/Mexican border and saw plenty of Border Patrol vehicles. This was in the area of Cloverdale and you could see Mexican Highway 2 from where we were at. Also along a desert road that parallels the border going to Douglas. Probably easier to cross in certain Texas areas.
There are a lot more jobs in Texas than in Arizona.
Drug running wouldn't be an issue if there weren't drug users in the US.
It hard to see anything with blinders on.
How many are going to the blue state of New Mexico? Not many I'll bet.
Arizona-Mexico border: 370 miles
Texas-Mexico border: 1241 miles

The Texas portion of the US border is much closer than New Mexico, Arizona or California.
Thus common sense says they will cross more often at the closest location unless prohibited.
