Kerry humiliated in Egypt (actually, he was just subjected to normal life)

You don't think the Egyptian government was trying to send a message, do you?

Kerry flew to Tel Aviv from Cairo, where he met Tuesday with Egypt’s president and other high-level officials.

An unusual screening process occurred involving Kerry and his State Department team as they were subjected to a metal detector before meeting with President Abdel-Fattah el-Sissi at the Egyptian presidential palace.

Reuters reports that Kerry and his aides were checked with a metal detector. Security personnel reportedly raised a handheld metal-detector wand to Kerry’s suit jacket before waving him through.

Kerry’s aides were also subjected to the handheld wand and were told to walk through a metal detector.

State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki said on Twitter that they are focused on trying to reach a cease-fire agreement.

“@JohnKerry and team are focused on working with Egyptians on a ceasefire, not on whether we went through security this afternoon,” she tweeted.

Psaki would say something like that because subjecting the US secretary of state to security screening may be unprecedented, and is certainly a humiliation of the first order. It demonstrates just how badly US relations with the Egyptian military government have deteriorated. Obama's support for the Muslim Brotherhood, his dalliance with Iran, and his confused policy in Syria have combined to cause Egypt to doubt that America can be relied upon.

I would cheer the fact that Kerry has been humiliated except the humiliation is also ours. Once again, the Obama administration's policies have illuminated how the rest of the world sees America. And it isn't a pretty picture.

“Do you know who I am?”

Doesn’t JFnK ever have to be wanded, scanned, searched, or irradiated like the rest of us? He might be a bit less cordial towards Islam if he did.

John Kerry, who served in Vietnam, emerges from a Gaza tunnel with message from Obama.

While I enjoy the idea of our aristocracy being humbled, it’s the idea of why which is humiliating. The reason people are screened for metallic objects is for security. By screening Kerry, the Egyptians basically said “Our trust for the US is so low, we think the US Secretary of State may attack us in person”.

It’s delicious to think of how irked Kerry was (is) about this but it’s still a humiliation.

What happens to other countries' foreign ministers when they visit Obama? Could this be a little game of tit-for-tat at how we've treated Egypt's diplomatic staff (well, in addition to screwing over their whole country by supporting and arming the Muslim Brotherhood)?

foreign ministers across the world are saying OMG then rolling the floor laughing....

I don't know if they're laughing, since this administration given its way much longer could cause the end of global civilization. I suspect they've decided to do things when no one from the administration is around to interfere.

If I had any respect for the administration, I'd think the humiliation is another situation. (you can't humiliate the malignant DC crowd...they do it to themselves) That would be the Pope and the Italian gov doing the diplomacy to get that Christian woman out of Sudan. Kerry is epic failing in Egypt and Obama is fund raising on the west coast while the released family is meeting with the Pope.

The fact that skerry exists should be a reason for his never-ending humiliation. What a complete putz...and traitor.

except the humiliation is also ours....Not me Kemosabe. They should have strip searched him full view of every passenger in the airport/lobby and subjected his whole entourage to the same.

Dear Lord, next thing you know Kerry will be forced to eat food not flown in from upscale caterers, in favor of food that ordinary people eat. Do the horrors ever end?
