Israel’s Prime Minster Benjamin Netanyahu revealed on Thursday that Hamas was intending to attack Israel from dozens of tunnels in a coordinated simultaneous attack. At the beginning of Thursday’s special cabinet meeting the prime minister said, “These tunnels enable the enemy to open a multi-pronged offensive and carry out a massive terror attack inside Israel.”
The attack Hamas was planning, the officials say, “would have made Israel drop to its knees.” They added that even the tunnels destroyed until now takes away from Hamas a strategic asset the terror group has been working on for years.
Hamas has prepared a veritable plan for ground warfare, after a few failed terror attacks and the realization that rockets are no match for Israel’s Iron Dome defense system. Preparations for a ‘boots-on-the-ground’ war started when Hamas realized it had nothing to lose, but the organization was not prepared for the IDF to start the ground incursion so soon and hoped to have convenient exit strategies.
IDF officials warned that the drop in the daily number of rockets fired at Israel do not indicate Hamas is running out. While it is true that Hamas’s reservoir of projectiles has been significantly depleted, taking into account the number of rockets fired and the number of rockets and launchers destroyed by the IDF, the smaller barrages are seen in the military as a calculation by Hamas that the war can take a whole month and therefore it would need to retain its rocket-launching capabilities to the very last day. According to estimates, Hamas had 9000 rockets at the beginning of Operation Protective Edge. It has fired around 2000 and some 3000 were destroyed by Israel. It therefore still has some 4000 rockets in storage.

Israel has to operate in the world in which it lives. Unfortunately, we have a dangerous US administration that has allied itself with the Muslim Brotherhood and its allies, including Hamas in Gaza. This is why Israel has had to swallow untenable policies, such as housing construction halts and even demolitions of homes where Israelis live ... LOL ...
As Israel’s efforts to curtail Hamas terror in Gaza have advanced, Israel has learned — through interrogation of surrendering Hamas terrorists who, it turns out, do value their lives, as well as through records that Israel has found in the terror tunnels — that Hamas was planning a previously un-heard-of terror attack against Israel for Rosh Hashana, one of the holiest days in the Jewish calendar, when many, if not most, of the Jews in the targeted communities in the south of Israel were likely to be in synagogue ... It is safe to say that at this point the vast majority of Israelis, even the leftists, endorse the policy of occupying Gaza, eliminating the threat from Hamas, and dealing with the situation from that point ... LOL ...
It is a futile effort of the left, yourself included, to try and preserve Hamas’ administrative authority over Gaza. While the organization may exert hegemonic control over the people, that will dissipate as Hamas continues to come to ruin ... LOL ...
Don’t forget that Hamas was put in a position of weakness after the obliteration of the Muslim Brotherhood regime in Egypt, which had been its biggest ally ...:-)...

And if one wants to say something about it apart from the law ... very simply it’s that Israel and the PA do have a certain degree of cooperation. Israel wants them for the administration of the civilians in their territories (Israel does not want their soldiers to be handling all those civilians) ... AND ... most recently the PA did cooperate with Israel im searching and aiding Israel in searching for the killers of those three Israeli teens.
For all practical purposes, Israel needs the Palestinian Authority for all those Palestinians in the territories, so Israel doesn’t have to deal with it every day and expose their soldiers to a lot of attacks.
The Palestinian Authority is not going away and Israel is going to continue to deal with them. It’s Hamas that they’re not going to deal with.
It is a lie to say that the Palestinian Authority cooperated with Israel in searching and aiding Israel in searching for the killers of those three Israeli teens.
The first thing that Fatah, which is the non-Hamas part of the Palestinian Authority regime, did was to post on its website a warning to all not to cooperate with the investigation.
To date the killers never have been found.

I think you continue to confuse the “Palestinian civilians” -versus- Hamas and their terrorist organization.
Israel has no problem in dealing with Hamas and its operatives and killing those attackers. The USA doesn’t have any problems with that either.
But both the USA and Israel don’t confuse Hamas with Palestinian civilians. On the website for the IDF, they have videos showing how they protect Palestinian civilians from collateral damge while attacking Hamas and their operatives.
The Israeli Ambassador clearly states in the UN Human Rights Council, just a few days ago, that Israel has no fight against the Palestinians in Gaza, bit they are fighting Hamas.
AND ... Israel has no problem with any humanitarian aid getting to the Palestinian civilians in Gaza, but they won’t let any arms or military parts get to Hamas in Gaza. And Israel lets UNRWA administer the humanitarian aid and let’s it go through the Israeli checkpoints.
SO ... Israel doesn’t make the Palestinian civilians the enemy to be attacked or starved or driven out - but - Israel will attack amd kill and get rid of Hamas operatives, just as they are doing now.
I continually see you mix up Hamas with Palestinian civilians, which neither Israel ir the USA does.

Speaking at the conference, Israel’s ambassador to the body, Eviatar Manor told the debate that “Israel will destroy Hamas’ military infrastructure.”
He also added that “the Gaza residents are not our enemy. Israel is fully committed to international law.”
