Come on. We all know the drill. Any evil person in history is “right wing.” Lee Harvey Oswald, Hitler, Stalin, Genghis Kahn, Attila the Hun, Vlad the Impailer, King John of England, Caligula, Nero. All of them would be voting Republican and attending Tea Party rallies if they were alive today.
This, BTW, is in my “48 Liberal Lies About American History.” Only ONE of the 20 US history textbooks I looked at identified LHO as a communist. When a descriptor was used, it was usually “a Marine,” a “former Marine” or a “deranged Marine.”

Few people would be in a Communist system by choice so the Soviet Union, PolPot, Fidel, and Ceausescu could only keep their subjects in line because they had guns!

Good point. By 1963 standards, Oswald was an extremely radical Communist. By the editorial standards of the staff of Salon in 2014, Oswald was conservative. (As were Marx, Lenin, Stalin, Pol Pot and Mao.)
