The crowd of 500 included grandmothers and small children, Chinese immigrants and the president of a local Republican club, all shouting that the mayor had trampled their rights.
The source of their anger? The 180 homeless families the city had moved into the defunct Pan American Hotel in Elmhurst, Queens. The residents felt nervous around the new arrivals, they said. There were reports of shoplifting from the Good Fortune Supermarket, public urination and panhandling all things, they said, that had been unheard-of in their neighborhood until now.
During the protest on Tuesday night, one of the organizers spoke through a bullhorn in Mandarin, as a few people looked out of the windows of the hotel.
Speak in English! a woman leaning out a window shouted, holding up her phone, perhaps to take a video of the protest.
Homeless with money, a protester sneered, referring to the womans phone.
While local residents often object when the city opens a homeless shelter in their midst, the vitriol in Elmhurst, since the city began moving families into the hotel in early June has shocked city officials. Because many of those opposed to the shelter are Chinese immigrants, the conflict has also produced discomfiting images of immigrant families and the mostly black and Latino homeless families shouting insults at one another. A local civic group has organized a series of protests, including one in late June in which some of the protesters yelled at the shelter residents to Get a job! and the homeless families responded that their opponents should go back to China.

You will associate with whoever we tell you to associate with.
Wonder how many of these protesting dupes voted for Deblasio.
My guess: 95%.
This is how you ‘’gentrify’’ a neighborhood. Move in the homeless (or a methadone clinic) drive down property values. Folks sell out, bing, you buy up the properties and sell ‘em to the young ‘’professionals’’ as condos and time shares.
What person in his/her right mind welcomes a “homeless” shelter to their neighborhood?
There goes the neighborhood, for sure. The illegal Chinese, whom I refer to as “coolie Chinese”, are no-class uneducated petty criminals right from the gutters of China. They are the ones who squat near the curb to smoke cigarettes, sell illegal endangered animals for pets, run their own little economy among one another without taxes being collected, toss trash wherever it falls, refuse to learn English or assimilate (except to collect benefits), rummage around in peoples’ garbage cans to collect bottles for redemption, turn lawns into truck gardens, smoke endlessly, littering the sidewalks with butts, go around hawking pirated videos (sometimes right outside video stores!), and bring a new level to “lack of any class”.
Diversity is such a blessing!
Wait until the Central American hordes move in...
Isn't diversity marvelous?
Wait till the Honduran and Guatamalan “children” get their with their MS-13 gang signs.
The Chinese are honorary white people. Good for them!
'Why does the government want to support this group? Mr. Gao said in Mandarin. Why do they want to give them free money? We have to work from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m.'
That is how the game is played Mr. Gao. Hard workers support no workers.
And sadly, our liberal culture does its best to make sure that the children or grandchildren of these hard working Asian immigrants are just as lazy and entitled as native-born Americans. Within a generation or two, they’ll be demanding a handout for the homeless and grievance-mongering too.
Seems like some impeachments are in order.
Why not house them at Gracy Mansion. Lots of room next to the idiot mayors bedroom.
Asians are the new white...
yup; and didn’t obama get 75% of the asian/oriental vote in 2012???
Only whites are filled guilt. The Han Chinese would slaughter anyone in their way ,if given the opportunity!
One big, happy, multicultural DemoRat family. ‘It takes a Village’... well they got one of their own choosing but now they no likey. Well happy multiculturalism anyway....the Rat Master tyrants have thus decreed.
When I lived in Elmhurst, there was an old Chinese woman who made the most disgusting sound, followed by a huge spit on the sidewalk, even in front of me while walking by.
I wondered what that was about... an insult or what?
One day she did that in the building lobby so I stopped and told her: Excuse me but in America that is disgusting and someone could easily slip on that (on the smooth stone lobby floor) and fall.
She obviously didn’t speak English and had no reply so I told her: Ching-chung-chi-chun-cho-ching, while pointing at her spit.
She then off loaded on me with a long Chinese reply. LoL!
I told her thank you.
Chinese have no racial guilt about black and Hispanic problems. They look out for their own.
This is similar with respect to government (in this case local) forcing something unwanted on a neighborhood.
Otherwise this little exchange shows that the circumstances are a little more complicated.
Get a job! and the homeless families responded that their opponents should go back to China.
I think that it is important to know that you can defeat government. Peacefully.
HUD proceeded with plans to open a home for various sorts in a Berkeley, Calif. neighborhood. The neighbors objected strenuously and peacefully.
Roberta Achtenberg of Clinton's HUD launched investigations of citizens of Berkeley, Calif. who had opposed HUD proposals with letter-writing, pamphleteering or other forms of peaceful protest. Achtenberg ordered the protesters to turn over diaries, phone messages and other personal papers. She threatened to fine the protesters $50,000.
If memory serves a federal judge cleared the way for bureaucrats and Ms Achtenberg herself, personally, to be held accountable and open to legal action. Again if memory serves Ms Achtenberg hightailed it back to San Francisco leaving her "brilliant" federal career behind.
Court document (Apparently the court document is no longer available July, 2014.)
I did not read much of the document but I do recall reading that the decisions left bureaucrats open to be personally responsible for their actions on the job and they could be sued as individuals. I believe the higher court agrees.
For example the court wrote, "When government officials violate citizens' clearly established First Amendment rights, however, we will not apply the doctrine of qualified immunity to defeat a remedy of damages to which the citizens are entitled under Bivens." I did not research Bivens. para #92
Another FReeper did know about Bivens and posted this reply Very important to know nowadays and from now on until the Constitution is restored.
We know it's there, of course. The problem is to pressure government to acknowledge and respect the Constitution.
But note how the NYT just had to mention that “the president of a local Republican club” was there heckling the people.
“Ching Yeung-Li and her children, Evan, 6, second from left, and Elizabeth, 4, and their cousin, Leonard Li, 3, were part of a group of Elmhurst residents protesting the use of the hotel on Queens Boulevard as a shelter.”
Sure would BE NICE if REPUBLICANS could figure out how to pluck a few votes from these people. Believe it or not, there are a LOT of Asians in this country.
...but our party doesn’t even try.
(good looking babe, though, runs circles around American girls)
